Using a 14/10 photoperiod to segregate phenotypes????

  1. I made some seeds recently and decide to sprout some this week. They are coming up now. I had an idea I wanted to share and see if anyone has experience or thoughts.

The seeds are from my "Grape Kush" female. I have no idea what it really is. I have put together that it has some Thai in it (nug on leaf mutation). It also has double serrated leaves that apparently come from Himalayan strains or NL5/Haze. It was pollinated with 3 unrelated hybrid males that together have a bit of everything from Skunk and Cheese to Jack Herer and OG to Blackberry.

Point being these seeds are partially unrelated polyhybrids and I expect wide variety of pheno's.

My idea is to veg the plants for a month or so and then flower the plants under 14/10. I suspect that Afghan dominant phenos will show themselves in a couple weeks while the Sativa's continue to veg.

14/10 is roughly the day length at the 35th parallel on August 1st and represents the day that flower induction is needed for an outdoor plant to finish between October 1st and 15th. It is also longer than a long tropical day and should prevent the Sativa's from flowering.

I planted 54 seeds and would like to get 2 trays to test. If I could run a tray of the more Afghan dominant plants and a tray of the Sativa dom's it would be cool (and helpful for feeding, training... etc).

I'm torn/tempted between weather or not to reduce the photoperiod a couple minutes a day to really mimic Colorado's natural cycle.

Final thought...This might also work on males?!?!? Maybe used to find the Afghan or Sativa dominant phenos for more accurate crosses or to split a line into 2 halves.

I'm gonna try it regardless so we will know in a few months.

  2. IMO, this will work

  3. [SUB]If you can move your light to the side of your room so the light hits the plants from the side, and rotate the plants 90 degrees daily. This will help with the Afghanica expressions, light overhead will stimulate Sativa Expressions.[/SUB]
