Cannabutter, The Right Way

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by CannabutterPro, Dec 20, 2013.

  1. Hello all,

First post on here. I'm here to present my guide on making Cannabutter and discuss brownies as well. When making Cannabutter, I make a large amount at a time. I use 2 1/2 pounds of butter (10 sticks) and 56 grams of name brand nug. I use a nutribullet blender to grind all the herb because the more grinded the better.

Once ground, melt the butter in a double boiler.
Once melted use a spoon to scoop all that foamy white stuff at the top and discard it, then pour ithe remaining butter into another pan excluding the white solids at the bottom. This is called clarifying butter, or getting rid of the milk solids and fats for better and purer THC absorption.

While melting, spread your herb out thin on a ceramic dish then cover and seal in tin foil. Place in oven at 230 Degrees F for about 45 minutes. This process turns the non-psychoactive THC-A molecules into THC. Heating the herb to that temperature eliminates one carboxyl group blah blah blah basically makes your bud way more dank, up to 10 times as dank. This process occurs instantly when the herb is burned. It also occurs somewhat during cooking however no where near the extent of using the oven. At this point if you are lucky enough to have the Magical Butter Machine, you can pour your decarboxylized herb and butter into the machine. I highly recommend it 5 stars on each aspect.

If you do not have the luxury, you now place the herb into the double boiler with melted and clarified butter. Also add 1 Tablespoon of Soy Lecithin per stick of butter (so 10 Tbsp. for me). Soy Lecithin is available at health stores and is very cheap, it greatly increases the ability of THC to be transferred into the butter, creating danker butter. Do not overheat, the mixture should be hot with an occasional bubble, do not fully simmer and certainly do not boil. You may see occasional vapors of steam coming off, that is okay because it is the terpenes burning off, not THC, however if they become excessive lower the heat. If you have a thermometer keep it between 230-240 Degrees F. Do this for 15-25 minutes (starting from when butter reaches right temperature) depending on how much butter while stirring vigorously. Once finished let cool for 10 minutes then pour into a storage container and freeze overnight. This allows for more transfer of THC to occur.

The next day, melt the butter on a very low setting, be patient. Strain the herb out of the butter, or dont its optional, then either pour directly into your recipe or into another container for storage. Some butter evaporates and is lost when clarifying it so you are left with 2 Pounds of Cannabutter or 8 sticks. 7 grams per stick, generally one stick per batch of brownies. Butter strength can always be modified to personal preference.

When making brownies, some THC can be burned off at high temperature baking requirements. The best course of action is to find a recipe with a lower baking temperature and to use the pan size listed on the box with the lower temperature. If you have patience you can bake it at 275 for a longer period of time until finished, mine calls for 325 however I do 300 degrees F. I use the Ghiradelli brownies. However, during the baking process there isn't much loss of THC due to heat, the temperature is only critical when transferring the THC into the butter.

Also add 2 tablespoons of Soy Lecithin to your brownie mix as well. Always seal air tight and save in the fridge or freezer for long term storage of brownies.

All the information contained here is from 10 years experience of experimenting with cannabutter recipes. The information I have said regarding every topic above can be found with scientific evidence online. The only problem is that no one has put it altogether into one post. Hope I help some people, comments and suggestions are welcome.

very nice write up my friend.
I was looking to make some edibles and saw your post
    Thanks
off to get the soy lecithin
and yeah, those Ghirardelli brownies from Costco are cheap and not bad for a packaged product

  3. Thanks man,

This recipe really is prime I just dont have any rep on this site so people won't be believing me as easy until they try it. I would greatly appreciate any feedback on the recipe after you've made it. I wrote this up so that everyone has access to a scientifically proven Cannabutter recipe, I have links to back up my statements just got kinda lazy to post them all since I posted on my phone. Enjoy the potent treats though my friend, and do not be skeptical about the short cooking time, think about all cooking in general, transfer of THC is quick just like anything else. Why would mother nature give us such a gorgeous plant and torture us with hours of stirring just to eat it. Those recipes that claim 1 hr - 24 hrs are all based on how a 5 year old thinks. Cooking something for 24 hours doesnt make it more potent, it burns off THC and leaves you with butter full of Chlorophyl and other plant matters.

Anyway, enjoy the butter, let me know how it comes out.

  4. Do you think its worth it to cook a half oz of some sugary stems? Or should I accumlate more?

  5. Depends how much butter you plan to use, id say no more than 1 stick
and try to keep it no more than 9 doses.

Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to give this one try. Oddly enough I was looking at ordering a Magical Butter machine as well, but I was not really convinced if it was worth ordering as I hand not seen any end users review on it.

I made a batch of coconut cannoil today with the magical butter. I used 1 ounce of extremely
strong buds. Turned it to powder with my blender then Decarbed sealed in pyrex dish with foil in oven at 235 for 45 minutes,
let cool then poured it into the magical butter. I put 2 cups of coconut oil in as well and 3 tablespoons of Soy Lecithin. Hit the oil button on 220 degrees F, let it run 3 times so 3 hours total, froze overnight, did 2 more cycles at 220 F so 5 hours total heating time
then used the oil. I used a small amount of herb as i was testing this coconut oil recipe for the first time. Each brownie ( 1/4 cup per batch so about an eighth per batch and .3 per brownie) came out perfect. The oil should
freeze and turn dark green the first time then after the final
two it should be a very dark brown or black and freeze a slightly
less dark brown. Add a tablespoon or two of Soy Lecithin to brownie mix as well. I made a couple trays today of the brownies and gave them to many of my friends. They were rating them anywhere from an 8 to 10 when i asked them
how they were on a scale of one to ten. Now theres .3 in each brownie, thats not much even though it was high end chronic. Now that i know this works I will do a .6 per brownie for complete anhilation. For a more
cerebral high and slightly less body high cook only 3 times. 5 times gives the maximum body stone and sligtly less head high, cooking 3 times
will give the opposite effect. Great investment i will be using it many times now, it will profit for me off just this one batch alone. 96 brownies out of a $150 herb investment and $150 magicalbutter investment. At $5 each they would sell for $480 total. The self clean feature doesnt work extremely well because cannabis is very sticky, but its easy to wipe off with a paper towel after a clean cycle of 3 minutes. All in all i give it 5 stars, buy direct from magicalbutter.com because that guarentees your warranty and use the coupon code "fblike" for $30 off. Let me
know what you decide to do and good luck!

  8. Im telling you I wish we were closer cause id challenge your butter against mine....my butter is very strong and its not as complicated as you make it to be.

  9. Ive stopped making butter and finally moved onto using coconut oul, it creates a more potent oil. My
method really isnt that complicated, decarbing is a must, soy lecithin is a must and all i ask is for a short cook time with the butter. With coconut cannaoil all you gotta do is heat it to 220 degrees and leave it there two hours while stirring, then freeze overnight and cook for 30 more minutes at 220. Cook for 1-3 more hours if desired, the longer you cook the more body stone and sleepy you will feel, the less you cook it the more head high you will get. Either way your oil should start clear and end very dark brown or black. What is your cannabutter method id be curious to hear it. I dont doubt your method, it could easily come out strong as well, i just take these steps to make sure i get the most out of how much herb i use so i waste none.

  10. What proof do you have to that follows the claims that it scientifically proven method to make cannabutter??  Not trying to knock on your thread, but I always believed that science will shows us the best way to make cannaoil.

I ask b/c one time I only cooked weed not even 5 mins and it was a gram of mids and it got me stoned all day.  It was the first time it worked for me, but I have never been able to duplicate the same results.  And I've used dank too, but I still need around a gram of that.  I've also smoked for 10+ yrs daily, so my tolerance is higher than most.

  11. I dont decarb...... cause the heating of the butter does that.....

1 boil water butter and weed together....let it boil for mabey 10 minutes on low
2 pour it into a bowl and freeze it
3 Melt it into a frying pan and boil it again
4 I used a old door screen to strain the weed butter and water mixture
5 pour weed and water into a bowl put back in frezzer
6 when solid take off top layer the butter and throw away water
7 remelt the butter and using a cheesecloth this time or any cloth like that for that matter Strain it and pour into container let it harden

8 scrap off top a tablespoon worth melt  into instant oatmeal (maple and brown surgar) enjoy

mabey the butter can be better but its pretty damn good comes out golden green and when making cookies there a hint of green that comes out....but all in all making butter isnt as hard as people may think

  12. The butter should be dark green and the taste overwhelming. People use water to keep the temperature low without having to stand over the pot the whole time. Water inhibits THC absorption, and you dont boil anything, you get the butter or oil to 220 F where it will bubble slightly
once in a while and keep it there, in a pure butter and herb environment, no water. Just read the stickied Cannapharm and type into google anything I have stated and you will find proof. Decarbing is a must as explained in this study. http://www.marijuanagrowershq.com/decarboxylating-cannabis-turning-thca-into-thc/

  13. Tolerance plays a major part with edibles and it sucks. My
tolerance is very high as well. However i will always still feel the edible unless id been an edible
junkie that week and had one everyday, then your tolerance goes up quick. It really only takes
5 minutes for thc to transfer. Just heat it to 220 degrees F.

  14. well thanks for the help anyways......but my butter kicks ass......unless  I just grow unbelivable weed

Your welcome, and im sure it does kick ass, thats why we love the plant right? I stated before that there are tons of methods used, some extract more than others, so while most methods will work, most will also leave you with potency behind. Smoke your herb after you make butter and see if you get high, with this method its not possible.

  16. Really???  I mean I can tell a slight difference but I thought thats just because cannabutter is different like when I go from Vaping to smoking.....sometimes I Vape one day and smoke the next...

Like different strains Ill smoke one and then another the next..

But yeah next time I make butter ill decarb it cant hurt any

  17. Im glad you are deciding to test it out, but please be careful because it can hurt if you decarb at too high a temp or too long, and make sure it is double sealed in tin foil. Good Luck.

  18. So I was skimming over the responses here, and I think I saw something like >

My budda' is mo' betta' than yo' budda !  :) LOL

Pretty funny, but undoubtedly their are a thousand different recipes that could / would work just fine :)

Interesting thread. Might try one of these recipes some time.  Thank you.

  19. No ones arguing here, and it is true that many methods work, but this method is ideal, and has science and experience to back it. This is the most modern way for just anyone to make canna edibles without having to buy expensive equipment.
