Putting a penny in your grinder helps collect more kief?

I put a dime in mine. It moves around collecting the kief and kind of presses it together along the edge of the grinder

 

but wouldn't that mean less trichomes in the bud that you're gonna smoke?

 

I've heard and done this several times with a dime (with no noticeable increase in kief production) ,but I never really understood the science behind it.

i use the grinder if i need to roll mass amounts of joints.. otherwise if i'm just packing a bowl it's done by hand.

 

Definitely more Aesthetic that way. People go out looking for the prettiest kind bud they can find and they are like "man its beautiful!" Then thrown into the metal deathtrap, Krr Krrr Krrrr.

 

I cut a gift card in half and put in in the lid of my grinder. I could get a quad of keif if i busted a O and a half.  Then I thought to myself, why am i extracting keif, out of bud, just to smoke it seperately.    So i stopped.

 

Sorry but what's the different between using a grinder and breaking down by hand?? By hand, trichs and resin sticks to your hands/fingers, and in grinder, at least it's collected at the bottom. Just thinking out loud.

 

I usually scrape the little bit of kief out of the grinder and mix it back in with my weed anyway. Or save it up for the end of a shitty day, or a weekend haha.

 

I always assumed as much too, isn't this the whole reason we're suppose to be so gentle during harvest. Personally if i were to buy a grinder now I wouldn't even get one that collects kief.

I used to have a quarter in mine, always.

I noticed a good increase in kief because the coin helps knock loose the trichromes stuck in the kief screen when there is momentum forced upon the grinder.

Say I have the grinder in my backpack with the quarter in it, and I just ground up a quarter ounce of bud at my friend's house to roll into blunts.
After all is said and done, I'm walking home high as fuck and while I'm walking my backpack is moving around a little right? Well inside is the grinder, and inside the grinder is the quarter. 
All that kief I saw stuck in the kief screen when I left is going to be a gift when I get home, since the quarter is helping it knock those trichromes through.
Doing a little dance helps knock that shit through too!   

If you want to get ALL the kief through, shake it for about a minute like your greasin' the gator, then pound the grinder on a flat surface 2 or 3 times and look at the results. 

 

I hear suggestions of using a nickel instead , since it doesn't have ridges near the edge, and is very smooth. Less likely to damage the screen that way tooSent from my SCH-I510 using Grasscity Forum mobile app

 

Yeah, my grinder was pretty dang big. That's why I used a quarter. haha

I've used only silvers though, never a penny. In my older smaller grinder, I would use a nickel.

Just pick a coin that fits in your grinder to your liking. 

 

why are people talking bad about grinders lol theyre so helpful.The coin in the grinder does help, it knocks the trichomes stuck in the chamber and in the screen down into the kief catcher. i dont have one in mine just because i like the remnants of kief where the grinded bud goes. just adds more thc to schmoke!!

 

Nickels work best but if you have a quality grinder eventually the coin will ruin your screen and it's not worth it.

 

I use my grinder to collect kif. I still get high off the weed, and I have kif I can press, turn into oil, or just pack on top of a bowl.

I used to bust it up by hand, or with scissors, but I always noticed kif flying off when I snap a bud, and you get it on your fingers, the tray... A grinder makes it easier and cleaner. I just pack bowls right out of my grinder usually. Weed rarely hits a tray.

 

i just keep my guitar pick in there, i like my grinder but i dont want to KNOCK trichs off, let them fall as they may.
