Help me build a water only soil.

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by B_herb420, Dec 13, 2013.

  1. What would I top dress with? And would it be okay to put a week or two old seedling into this mix?

  2. Earthworm Castings or Kelp Meal or both!

If not castings then try compost.

    Cool, thanks
I saw you're a fan of bomb seeds. I'm a fan of "medi bomb #2" really nice plant and a nice smoke.

  4. Another question.

Do you guys worry about flushing with organic soil? How does that work? just leave it be?

  5. Much better!

  6.
Flushing is used to remove excess salts that build up when you grow using bottle nutrients.

Since your not using any salts no need to flush! Wonderful isn't it?

  7. Yeah, that does sound good.  B)

Cool, did you check out those links for compost? Would something like that work?
Do I need to add the dolomite/gypsum if I use ProMix?

  8. I just checked out your compost - while I've not used it, it looks good!

    ProMix is already pH balanced.

Alright good, good. Ill be using something like that

  10. Does this mean I should flush? lol

  11.
One of the Espoma 'tones'. I use both Garden Tone and Tomato Tone, just not at the same time. You would top dress about 2 weeks before starting 12/12 and again about a month into flower.

    Wet

  12. Cool, what's the npk of the garden tone and tomato tone?

And what do you think of the most recent mix of ingredients I had posted?

  13. You would still need the dolomite at the least in ANY peat based mix.

I use dolomite and gypsum, 1 cup of each/cf.

Been using the lime for well over 30 years in my mixes. The gypsum only in the last 3 or so years.

    Wet

    Base:
    1 part ProMix
    1/2 part Worm castings
    1/2 part Quality compost
    1 part perlite
    \nAmendments:
    about 1 cup Kelp
    about 1 cup Neem
    about 1 cup Crab meal
    (alfalfa tea every couple weeks)

    Minerals:
    3 cups of Rock Dust
    1/2 cup Calcium Carbonate
    1 cup Dolomite Lime
    1 cup Gypsum

  15. Also I have a horse farm locally that has free horse manure. Can I make use of this in any way?

  16. Lose the 1/2 cup of CC, no need with the dolo and gypsum in those amounts.

IDK about the neem or the crab. I use blood meal OR alfalfa meal Or alfalfa+soybean meal as a N source. Usually alfalfa+soy in the initial mix and blood as a top dress when I need a shot of N. For P, it's usually just bone meal. Cheap and available locally. Kelp meal for the K and greensand is added to the initial mix, but not later, as it will last for 3 years or so.

I don't recall the NPK of the Espoma offhand, they are all pretty similar, but the tomato has slightly lower N. Google Espoma for tons of info.

Jerry is correct, ProMix does have added lime. The just don't add enough. I've grown things in pure crushed limestone which should answer your question about using too much. The drainage sucked and it was a emergency move, but nothing got burned or discolored or died.

    Wet

  17. Base:
    1 part ProMix
    1/2 part Worm castings
    1/2 part Quality compost
    1 part perlite
    \nAmendments:
    about 1 cup Kelp
    about 1 cup Neem
    about 1 cup Crab meal
    (alfalfa tea every couple weeks)

    Minerals:
    3 cups of Rock Dust
    1 cup Dolomite Lime
    1 cup Gypsum
\n\n\n\n\nThe npk of my amendments are:
    Neem 5 - 1 - 2
    Crab 4 - 3 - 0
    Kelp 0.6 - 0.5 - 2.5
    \nDo I just add these numbers up to make my total? (9.6 - 4.5 - 4.5)
And how do these numbers look?
\n\n\nI wanted to avoid greensand because I heard it's not a renewable source
\n\nI feel my NPK is low. And lacking in P

  18. Don't worry about NPK numbers in an organic garden - it doesn't work like that and you'll drive yer self batty trying to fix a nonexistent issue.

I was being sarcastic about flushing - another thing you shouldn't worry about in organic soil.

Your Kelp Meal will provide you with Potassium. Your Neem will provide you with Potassium.

  19. Yeah, I hear you on that one.
