You don't need to be an expert, nor use Photoshop.

    1. Just download and install GIMP
    2. Go to images.google.com
    3. Look up Santa Hat PNG alpha - Find a santa hat picture that isn't plastered with narcissistic copyright claims, and make sure it has a transparent background.
    4. Right click the image, and press Copy.
    5. Go to GIMP - open the image file of your avatar.
    6. Create a new layer, and add an alpha channel to that layer. Make sure this layer is on top of the layer that contains the original image.
    7. Select this new layer, and then paste the picture of the santa hat. You might need to scale it down a bit, rotate, squeeze it, shear it, etc. so as to make a perfect fit.
    8. Export to JPG or PNG, making sure it's 100% quality.

Here's an example of a santa hat with alpha channel:

  16. WAIT.. I have an even better idea for this Christmas.

  17. give mines a try haha [IMG]

  18. There's an app for ios that puts a santa hat on your avatar. Makes all that jargon seem like a white board full of mathematics and theoretical physics.

Or you can google "santa hat my avatar" like I did last year.
