Organic Mite/Mildew Spray that actually works

  1. For those of you who followed or used my Rosemary neem solution I got another one. (NO I am not claiming I invented it but I found the combination/concentration that works). All of this work was inspired by Zero Tolerance and my desire to save a buck.

I started growing 6 years ago just before the rush here in Colorado. The rush lead to endless mites, powdery mildew took over yards, bad clones abounded and many many many went broke or threw in the towel. I went broke but I did not give up. I have been reinfested after using the scary chemicals several times so once I had some cash I invested in an arsenal of essential oils and went to work to insure I would be in charge of my grow.

I've been playing with this recipe since I posted the last one. It was intended for mites because I wanted another solution for my preventative arsenal. I was focusing on garlic's antifeeding properties and orange oils insect/fungal toxicity. I had not seen a might in months when I spotted them in one of my veg rooms. AND whats that? Powdery mildew at the same time. WTF! I  was out of town and allowed my babysitter to skip preventatives, then a fan died and game on! I knew garlic and limonene were both recommended. I had them, so I went for it.

    Recipe:

Fill an standard ice cube tray with water. Then pour off the water into a blender and note the quantity.
Add 1 average size head of garlic (that's a head not clove) and blend
While blending enough dr bronners that it foams up.
Strain through a tshirt or cheese cloth. Then strain trough a coffee filter (copper wire kind).
Clean Blender and put the filtered solution back in it.
    Add
    20 ml Orange oil
    10 ml Neem oil
    5 ml Cinnamon Leaf oil

Blend and add more DR B's till it foams again.
Add enough water to equal twice the volume noted earlier
(this gives you 2 trays with the exact same strength)
    Pour in trays and freeze.
This makes 28 cubes. I use 4 ice cubes per liter.

This wiped out both my mites and mildew. I have been 2 harvests without a sight of anything. I spray my veg plants every 2 weeks and then once they flower I get 2 more sprays before the first flowers appear. I have not needed anything else. I will admit it was It was a very small colony of mites and one leaf of PM so IDK how effective it was. I also don't know if the cinnamon oil was needed...the author of one of my books says limonene controls and might be capable of eradication.

You have to really search to find some these of these oils cheap. I got most at http://www.essentialwholesale.com//category/44/essential-oils but a Search for 4 oz and 8 oz bottles may find even better deals. The search engines try and return tiny bottles for really high prices. I think I'm still under the cost of a big bottle of mighty wash or zero tolerance and I wasted a ton on experiments and ineffective oils.

CAUTION: Always test on a small area first. Essential oils can vary (cinnamon leaf and cinnamon bark oil are different but not always clearly marked...C leaf has lots of eugenol and is more like clove and cheaper. Neem is always very dif...I use Einstein Oil)
CAUTION 2: I USE A LOT OF MY PRODUCT AND ITS PRETTY GOOD STUFF... Don't let a typo/brain fart/mistake in my notes or on here ruin your day!

  2. Good stuff Bioguy. Thanks for sharing. Here's another resource for essential oils if you don't know about it already:

    Thanks Chunk.

They have Cinnamon Leaf for $13 @ 4 oz ....$20 @ 8 oz. Thats pretty good but my link is half that. Yours may have better deals on some other oils....its a bigger selection too. I usually just check Cinnamon because its rarely cheap. Common oils like orange, I'd check amazon and ebay first.
