When are growers going to start curing and growing Gold Weed?  It was one of those incredible treats any old time stoner like me knows and loves.  Today, few people have even seen much less tried Gold Weed.

I'd be willing to pay a LOT MORE $$$ for anyone growing gold weed.  I know green is "in" with weed today, but please ask your dealer and growers to start providing this great smoke.  It's so smooth and mellow I'd smoke it if it had 0% THC, just for the mellow relaxing ritual of smoking something really tasty and soo good.  PLEASE!!!

  5. I need to see pictures of this junk. I've hopped around the internet and the only "gold" weed I found, was brown to a light tan which means
The bud had died on the plant before they harvested
And like I said in a post earlier I've seen moldy weed sit in a jar for month look for gold than any current example

Here is an old picture of Colombian Gold, probably from the early to mid 70's. It usually came from the Santa Marta area of northern Colombia, just north of the equator.  The climate ranged from tropical near the coast, then went into high desert and then snow covered mountains.  The picture I believe came from HighTimes and I copied it and just pasted it here.  I WISH it were my weed, and I still had some.  The stuff I used to see was exactly the same, and had those little seeds, which nobody had any luck growing in the US....as far as I know.

  9. I believe 'Gold' weed is weed that has been grown under natural sunlight, close to the equator where the lumen density is greater. Probably also has something to do with genetics. In my experience, the 'Gold' weed has always had a very organic and rich taste, earthy, with a mellow uplifting high. I've also noticed it always tastes like it was grown outdoors (in optimal conditions), and it has always been flushed well.

  10. That elbow pipe is ballin :D Made from stone? Pretty looking buds too, looks tasty.

  11. The sweetest weed iv ever smoked was gold with lots of red hair. it was $15 a quarter in 1982 ish. It was not moldy or weak, just sweet as pie.

We called it Acapulco gold but who really knew what it was. I did grow out a few clones of Acapulco gold about a decade ago but there again it was just good smoke.

It might be fun to light bleach a bud and see what it taste like.

Thats some fine stuff, have not seen any since the late 70's. The seeds we grew then had fat leaves with very jagged fingers. Some we grew were triploid and grew out very cool looking topped once or twice. I might have to hunt some down again if it has the bad ass looking leaves.

Hey...I'm curious about your gold clones.  Does that weed have dominant sativa genes?  Also...when it's cured does it get gold naturally from the curing process or do the leaves then buds just get mature and turn gold like the trees do in the fall when the chlorophyl gets used by the plant?  The gold weed I've had came from Colombia and although my information is limited, I heard it's allowed to turn gold while it's still in the ground, just slowly reaching the end of it's cycle and gets gold colored.  Not sure exactly how it's grown or what strain, but I know it's great and something I wish was grown and cured like that today by growers.  HINT to Growers.....you might be able to sell it at a premium guys!!!

Hi again, OP! You and I are definitely on the same page about this subject.

Now that you mention it….I NEVER saw anyone who grew any homegrown Colombian Gold or anything that turned out to be anything like the way it came "imported" back in those days. I have certainly had sinsemillas that were grown from those old bag seeds and sometimes they were reeeeeeaaaaallly good!! Clone, you say? HA! What's that? We only grew weed from seeds back then, so each batch was completely variable.

How those old golds and reds got their color….I can't tell you, but man they were tasty weren't they? It might be the soil…the sunlight…even the air….and very likely the fact that the plants were allowed to grow to their full life cycle before being harvested.

And I remember those little white seeds that were under-developed….but I also got bags of that weed that had buds with dark, fat seeds…and I saved them by the jar-loads. Unfortunately, only a fraction of what I had back then has made it through all the moving around over the years. But I'm going to put a little grow thing together one day and try germinating a few of those old seeds to see what happens.

  14. Well this is my first time growing the gold, it's a full sativa and it's cloned from a seed plant that came here from michoacan. I do believe tho that the difference In color is dependent on humidity and temperature

Sorry to butt in on the answer…but the loss of chlorophyll in a plant indicates the end of its life cycle. Plants grown in their natural season in their natural environment probably do get some form of "Fall color" -as you mentioned. Whatever the case, the fact that the chlorophyll is gone means that the taste is going to be different.

Some plants go purple when they get exposed to cool temps because they "think" its Fall and so they start to shut down food production. What's left, under that chlorophyll is a substance called anthocyanin. It's what makes the purple color. It also imparts a different flavor in the absence of the green chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is what that green grassy "hay" "alfalfa" smell comes from and it has to be broken down one way or the other in order for the weed to taste good. The weed has to be grown a longer time and then cured a long time -and slowwwwllly- so that the chlorophyll degrades and the terpene profile evolves.  Otherwise, it's going to taste light and flowery instead of heavy and rich and hashy.

  17. Thanks for the information, I'm quite curious how all this happens, and now it's all making sense.....Thank you so much.

  18. Thanks, I'm glad there are still folks out there who remember these old strains..and how tasty they were.  I wish you luck in your grow.  Many thanks for the information.
