My first grow (Indoor CFL)

  1. Hey guys,

I have recently started growing my own bud. :p Googling all my questions and grow related problems I frequently came across GC so today I decided to join! ^_^

So I started out with bagseed this year as allmost a trail run since I did not want to waste my seeds I baught from overseas by messing up somehow with my first grow. (Growing them start of next year - Cotton Candy & Northern Light Blue)10 seeds were germinated, all from some seeds I have kept from decent bud over the last year or so.
The soil I used was just plain potting soil since I had some of it laying around. All 10 sprouted and finished seedling phase. Had a 24/0 lighting schedule. During veg, one of the plants were lagging and was growing strangely deformed, so I took it out. Oh yeah let me explain my lighting setup. Got 4 x 12W (veg spectrum) and 4x 23W (flowering spectrum) CFL's all hanging underneath a homebuilt reflector. (you will see in pics later) I have been using both types during the whole grow figuring more light even if from another spectrum is better than just 4 CFL's at a time. During veg I used some nutes I found around my place. It us vegging nutes though not flowering nutes.

Swapped to 12/12 cycle at about 3weeks into veg, since I wanted them to flower as soon as they possibly could (Pressed for time, leaving for holidays end of the month now). After about a week and a half prelowers started showing. 3 where male and got tossed. 6 plants started flowering and after about a week and a half 2 turned hermie and got tossed as well. :( But now we are in flowering week 5 basically.

One plant looked very indica dominant due to fat leaves and shorter etc.. The other ones look sativa dominant with 2 being fairly tall.

I know lighting is poor and I have gotten myself 18 CFL lightbulbs which will be used in next years grow.

Hoping to get a magnifying glass of some sort so I can look at trics otherwise Im just going to harvest the ladies in about 2-3 weeks.

    Thanks for watching,
    Happy Tokin:lol:

  4. hey man theirs nothing wrong with using cfls but you definitely need to have those lights close the whole time your growing. about 3 inches away from any part of the plant. thats why ur plants are stretched so far not a bad thing but you will definitely  get better results having ur lights as close as possible the whole time ur growing

i am currently on my 5th grow using cfls i only grow one plant at time averaging about 200 grams wet a plant i just upgraded some of my lights for this last grow i am using 1 68 w 2700 k 2 42 w 2700 k and 6 23 w 5000 k so i am at about 290 w total i am growing a northern lights blue auto in fox farm soil

cant wait to see how this one does feel free to ask any im no expert

hope all goes well for you man

  5. Awesome bro! I am doing the same thing right now, check out my profile posts!  One nooby to another, look into getting a handful of bulbs in the 6400k spectrum in addition to the 5000k bulbs.  You could get crazy and mix the 2700k's with some 3400k's.  Even though the CFL's claim to be "full-spectrum" lighting, it's a good idea to balance it as well as you can yourself.  These are a pretty chill idea for 6400-6500k Spectrum blue

you can find the 2700-3400k bulbs on their as well.  They come in packs of twenty, so well worth your money compaired to buying online.

Also, with your next grow consider fimming or topping your plants occassionally !  This helps keep them short and stout, instead of focusing growth upwards.  Keep your lights close and the plants should be able to come up a little more bushy :)  Don't do it too much though because you will stress your plant out!  Best of luck !
