Organic food is an absolute joke.

  1. But first, let me preface this rant, with a little info.

    For most of my 50 years, I never cared WTF kind of garbage I ate ! Fast food, sugary, saturated fat, etc, etc, etc.

    Then, 4 years ago, I flipt the script, and turned into a health and fitness freak. However, like every other endeavor I've ever undertook, I thought for myself, and did everything the way it made sense to me.

    I did start eating a TON of fresh fruits and veggies, and of course I did my own research into organic foods.

    I found TONS of evidence to say that "Organic" is basically an expensive catch phrase, with zero additional health benefits.

    Thanks to this awesome vid, by another "self thinking individual" I can keep my typing to a minimum.

    To see exactly what I'm saying about organic foods, you have to watch this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhBKtjDtTVk

  2. Oh, just a couple of highlights of the vid...

    Did you know that organic foods use pesticides ? Sure... just pesticides which have been deemed to be organically safe... some of which has been proven to be "not" as safe as some of the latest, safest synthetic types.

    Organic foods have been shown in blind tests, to have "no measurable difference in nutritional values"

    Organic food can be imported from China, or Viet Nam, or wherever TF, and this food "does not" have to be labeled "imported from ####" !

    Organic food will not sustain a world pop of 7.5 bil... and climbing :(

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    So I heard Dr. Oz say, that Strawberries were the worst for holding onto pesticides and other nasty stuff, because of all the seed pours {rough surface} I had actually started rinsing mine off real well, about a year earlier "after" eating a truckload of them unwashed, from say like 09-12.... then one day, got a particularly dirty batch...
    And so ya' know what ? I'm really not tripping on a few pesticide residues....... but heaven forbid I should get some sandy, gritty ass shit in my strawberry oatmeal ! Because THAT would suck !
    So yea ! I rinse the shit out of my strawberries :)
    I kept buying these Mangoes from my local store and they were "Organic" and green. I thought this was very odd, but I read about green mangoes in the past so I thought it was okay.
    After two of those green mangos I came to the conclusion that they were still raw.
    And they were. A week later there were a few more "organic mangoes" but more yellow than green.
    It's like, you guys fucking seriously sold me raw fruit and didn't even warn me?
    There are green mangoes, but this wasn't a green mango.
    Guess what color the cheaper, normal mangoes were?
    Yellow and red.
  4. Correct me if I am wrong, I neglected to watch the video. Organic food is also grown sustainable? I think that if only for that fact its ok for the programed masses to eat it.
  5. Umm, all fruit is sold raw, I think you mean unripe, if thats the case, simply place unripe fruit in a cool dry place for a few days, paper bags help as well.
  6. I knew raw was an odd word. I'm more around meats than I am fruits and Veggies.
    I know but some of the same mangoes a week (5 days) later were still not even ripe being sold (And I could tell because no one picked the ugly lumpy mango, it just stayed there being ugly and unripe)
    Most of the fruit I buy is borderline unripe, and sometimes a little green is no problem in my book.
  7. Unless your buying local, you will find almost all fruits and veggies are harvested early so they don't rot before making it to your kitchen. Also many fruits are covered with a thin layer of wax to seal the pores and allow the fruit to stay fresh longer. Commen example would be apples.
  8. Problem with mangoes, damn things often go off before they ripen.
    Shame too, cause they're delicious...
  9. I can definitely taste the difference between the two when it comes to fruit, meats and vegetables. Grassfed meat is pretty tasty and better for you than even super lean regular meat.
  10. I don't know about fruits and veggies, but I worked an Angus ranch as a kid and they were all fed with stuff we grew there on the farm. I can say the Angus I got from there was way better then the crap they sell at walmart.
  11.
    Organic strawberries are pretty tasty and aren't that much more than regular ones. (Like 50 cents maybe)
  12. Why not grow your own, cheap as well as tasty, easy to grow. I eat a lot of tomatos and green onion. So to cut my cost I started growing them myself, save a bunch and get to watch my tasty food grow!
  13. Your info is all wrong
    First all, my farmers market has local grown fruits and veggies and our certified organic farmers do not use pesticides, but beneficial bugs such as lady bugs. These produce are driven directly from farm to market and picked ripe. The prices are actually the same as any markets or grocery stores and you can actually get deals that you can't get at grocery stores like 3 lbs of mixed veggies for $2.
    These fruits and veggies are super crispy and fresh and anything from the grocery store is gmo and studies have shown that gmo foods caused tumors in lab rats.
    Organic foods may be a hype, but its here to stay. It can feed a growing population if everyone had a farm in their backyard instead of a swimming pool or just grass. Some Americans are turning their front yards into gardens. This can support a 8 billion people world if people with land grew organic foods.
  14.
    Because they take 3 months to grow. My sister does grow peppers, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes and some other stuff.
  15. That just means you grow indoors in cycles or out doors and turn some in to jams and what not. Still growning your own food is not for everybody.
  16. I think op is speaking more about organics sold at supermarkets, not farmers markets. Also you may know what is normal pratice at your local farms but world wide many "organic" farms do use pesticides that are considered "safe" or "sustainable". A simple google search proves that the practices in organics are varied and no real standered "best" pratice is employed accross the industry.
  17. You should check and see if you have bountiful baskets in your area. From what my gf told me its local farmers coming together to provide a select basket of fruits and veggies. Like 20 bucks a week and you get a crate full of goodies with recipes to use some of the rarer items in the basket. Last week we got raw vanilla!
  18. or maybe you can taste the difference between two brands? Each company will have different growing conditions besides w/e preservatives like amount of water, sunlight ,soil PH , micro nutrients and fertilizers.
    0P you are sadly mistaken. organic foods are grown much more naturally and les chemically then mass produced and mass marketed foods. organic foods do not use harmful pesticides and if you're lucky they are not genetically modified but a lot of times they lie about the genetic modification of food. the taste is noticeably different very very noticeably different. organic foods taste like they actually came from the earth lol. Granted there are instances where food is marked as organic but is not really organic... what does not really much you can do about that aside from growing your own that way you know its organic because you grew it or going to a reputable organic market or store and hoping for the best...
    I buy organic foods and I absolutely love it I don't have any problem paying the extra dollar for higher quality products
  20.  No Huey, you are mistaken. I provided a vid, that you really need to watch. The whole organic movement, hinges on people like yourself.
    Here's my best health plan:
    Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Plenty of lean meats. Keep the carbs down to a reasonable level (no more than 40% of your daily cals). Eat plenty of healthy fats, avacados, olives, nuts, Salmon, etc.
    Exercise 5 or 6 days a week, resistence + cardio.....
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    BTW, we are discussing this on a weed forum, where I would have to assume, "health, fitness, and diet" are not of the highest priority. However, quite interestingly to me, I've posted this same subject, on a popular health and fitness forum, and I was very surprised that the majority of these people (read: people of whom health, fitness, and diet IS a priority, and of whom have studied this subject in depth) were pretty much anti-organic as well.

    The whole organic movement started off with the best of intentions..... but when big industry saw a bunch of people jumping on the bandwagon, they quickly jumped in to become the leaders, in a multi-billion $ scam.

    So keep it up Huey, their depending on you.
