Hey, welcome to another indoor grow journal for some Nirvana beans that I ordered in Feb of this year. I have been keeping them in the crisper sealed up in a lightproof container. I only sprouted one of each strain this time, in the beginning space was a concern because I need some work done for the coming Winter so that I can continue to grow my own medicine down there. Hopefully no floods will impede my progress this run, that already happened towards the end of my last indoor run. It was my first attempt at growing again since 2008.

I had a couple going outside this summer and a few inside but I didn't get any mass producers again and the yields were very little of some very high quality smoke. I have like 2 nugs of Northern Lights left, had a real nice pretty girl outside that made some stanky skunky smelling bud but not much of it.

About two weeks ago I sprouted 2 seeds- 1 Northern Lights and 1 Blue Mystic. I soaked them for 6 hours in water and they both cracked open very quickly and sprung to life. The last seeds I used produced 8 finished plants out of 10 seeds, I had a dud in both the NL and the Blue Mystic packs. Off to a good start with these new 5-packs though, and I have 8 seeds for later. I wanted to use as few seed as possible this time because I plan on LST'ing the two young plants at the 5th nodes and then clone them both to fill out my space for flowering. I had really good clone rates this summer with both the Northern Lights and the Blue Mystic.

Again, as the last couple times I've grown the strain, Blue Mystic is showing mutant traits and doing some strange things already. Two of the leaflets on the 2nd node are fused together and it looks a bit like Duckfoot does. I've had mutant plants with every seed in the first five pack, and now the first of a new 5-pack. The plants were very very Indica leaning which is what I wanted anyway, but I HAVE seen Blue Mystic go full on hermie and seed up a few plants. I've seen little buds make a male flower that has 1 false hair coming out of it instead of 2. At first I thought it was light leaks during lights off but even this new plant is young and has only been under 24/0 light since it sprouted so it can't be the only cause of all these strange growths on all 4 plants I had survive from the first 5-pack plus this first from the new pack. I understand Blueberry, which they say is a key ingredient in Blue Mystic, has some funky mutant traits occasionally but I haven't really seen anything like these when I browse pictures of Blue Mystic plants that others have.

Northern Lights looks healthy, hopefully its a bit more Indica than the last few plants I've grown from Nirvana. The first seed of this stock that I grew was a dwarf that produced some of the best smoke of my first run. I had a dud die the next one I popped and then I got two that grew big and healthy outside this Summer. They both had sativa-ish looking buds that were a little on the fluffy side and not much of it either especially considering the size of the plants. The dwarf inside had some thick Indica nuggets that were nice and chunky. I hope this new plant is on the chunky side when she flowers.

Right now I can see the 4th node forming on these plants, so after the fifth node grows out I will be tying them down a bit and get some nice branches ready to become cuttings.

First picture is a group shot, got some other various plants down there just taking up space until the clones are set. I like these plants and didn't want them to die when it freezes. Northern Lights is on the bottom, Blue Mystic on the top.

Second picture is the Blue Mystic mutant leaf in my hand.

    Third picture is Northern Lights.

Last picture is Blue Mystic in the front, Northern Lights in the back.

The girls are still doing good, they have grown a little bit the past week. I figure in about another week I will start with the low stress training (LST) process. Right now the plants have both established the 4th node and I usually like to wait until the 5th to start LST'ing them so that I get at least 10 nice branches that will be mostly cloned. They are both starting to produce some nice little branches on the 1st-2nd nodes as well so everything is on track...so far so good!

This Northern Lights plant looks like it is going to be VERY nice, glad I finally got an Indica leaning phenotype. I think NL is supposed to be 90% Indica and 10% Sativa, but I usually get plants that look like a 50/50 mix or even leaning Sativa with thinner leaves. This girl looks rather nice and I think she's going to be special, making lots of little branches already. I hope all goes well with the cloning and I can have about 8-10 total plants when I switch out the MH light for the HPS in a couple months.

I am trying to keep the girls happier this go around and I've been letting them listen to some tunes as they grow this time. I love taking care of my own medicinal needs, and MJ is such a beautiful plant to grow.

I currently have the other plants growing along with the girls inside for the Winter and they really help out as far as making sure my light isn't too close to the plants so they don't get burnt leaves. My cactus from Florida is starting to go crazy with growth shoots budding all over the place too! It stayed the same size for about a year, and now it is taking off.

  3. First 2 pictures are overviews of the whole shebang with Northern Lights on the left and Blue Mystic on the right. Next 2 pictures are Northern Lights, last 2 pictures are Blue Mystic.
Seems like the Northern Lights is keeping up with the Blue Mystic so far, the last couple times the Blue Mystic grew way faster than NL.

Good luck to you too bud, and thanks for coming along on this trip. I forgot I followed your journal the other night when I was all stoned up and stuff lol. You should have a really nice experience with the 'Lights though, I've found a few fantastic phenotypes over the years and it rarely disappoints except for the first feminized bean I grew that resulted in a mutant midget.. BUT the smoke was top notch. Just didn't get too much of it.

This should be a fun grow, and I am excited to make another journal on GC! Nirvana is an excellent company with legit goods. Honestly I've never even bothered going through any other company since I started buying beans in the mid 2000's. I've made a good amount of purchases and only had one package that failed to arrive intact. Nirvana quickly hooked me up with a replacement order even though they didn't have to because it wasn't their fault, but I've been a loyal customer ever since.

I have first hand experience with these Nirvana strains:
Hindu Kush (my favorite from years ago but they weren't selling it last I checked unfortunately), White Rhino, Northern Lights (my second favorite), Papaya, Aurora Indica, and Blue Mystic (would be my absolute favorite forever if it would just stop popping balls on me).

The only strain I've ever had any kind of issues with from Nirvana is this Blue Mystic...I am a huge Indica fan, don't care for jungle weed sativa that much...but the Blue Mystic is everything I've ever wanted in a strain EXCEPT for the mutations and hermie traits I've ran into on each and every plant I've grown. I have yet to finish out a Blue Mystic plant because I always have to chop them early to avoid smoking a pile of seeds, its pretty frustrating because I can see the MASSIVE potential that this strain has. It has far less sativa traits than any other strain I've grown. It is the definition of "Indica". Nirvana should really think about changing the picture on their website for Blue Mystic because it doesn't represent this strain whatsoever and makes it look bad.

The first time I grew out Blue Mystic and had 2 hermies I thought maybe there was a light leak, so I fixed that and when I flowered 2 Blue Mystics inside over the Summer they hermied out as well so that wasn't my problem. I'm still trying to figure it out, no idea why this is going on. I try not to stress my girls out and I try to take very good care of my plants.

I am hoping that the hermie problems were just limited to my first 5-pack of Feminized seed, this is the first bean I've sprouted out of my 2nd pack. I am already seeing strange mutations like the leaflets fused together in my first set of pics, so I can't allow myself to get my hopes up yet because this is how the others started out...strange mutations then at the start of flowering they would make leafy growths next to the female preflowers and eventually the plants made false female flowers that only had one hair and had a ball sack inside.

  6. I got a 5 pack fem end of september. First grow ever. Popped one bean. IMAG0168.jpg

  7. I heat stressed it on week 3 from seed. That pic was rite around week 2ish/3. On week 5 now showing its vigor again. Starting to smell "skunky" i guess

Well this last week sure has been eventful and not in a good way either.

    A couple issues have arisen:

    1) I've been waiting days for a utility company to come do some light work in my basement and I had to downsize the whole setup so that I can quickly hide the two girls when they arrive. This was expected and planned out ahead of time, I knew about it when I sprouted the beans, I just didn't expect to be waiting days and days for them to show up. Now I have the two plants under a few CFL lights that can be quickly taken apart and hidden if they ever do show up to do this work or what.. One of the nicest things about growing Northern Lights and Blue Mystic is the low odor during vegetative growth. You have to touch or rub the plants to really get a noticeable odor in the room, which is a really good thing in some instances such as the situation I find myself in now with this utility work that needs done.

    2) I've been bending the main stems for a few days, getting ready for when I LST the plants here soon(once I get this work finished in my basement and I can set the MH light back up permanently). I guess I took the Northern Lights plant a little bit too far and it snapped in half like a stick of fresh celery. Right after it happened I placed the severed half of the plant into water. I'm hoping that she roots and I'll have a nice head start on the cloning. The 6 remaining branches are starting to fill out nicely though and she's healthy. The plant is only 3 nodes tall now that she's been downsized, I didn't really plan on breaking half of my plant off but it isn't going to kill the plant or anything so.....oops.

Looks like I'll be LST'ing the Blue Mystic and not the Northern Lights. NL was accidentally topped.

I'll add some pics next time I venture down to the jungle.

  9. Wow she looks great! It really looks a lot like my Blue Mystic plants, really strong indica with not so many sativa traits at all. That is what I aim for every time I plant a seed, not a huge sativa fan. They take too long to finish and sometimes outdoors in my area they don't finish at all by the first frost. With hybrids I always pick something more indica as well, heck even White Widow is too sativa for me. I tried White Rhino once upon a time but they never made it to flower, they were very picky plants that didn't grow well in my soil mix.

Good luck with that girl, she looks fantastic!

  10. Hey teddy man that means alot to a first timer such as myself. If u dont mind, i would like to pull up a chair. There is alot of great info. And i, as you know, an growing blue mystic from Nirvana. When i check on my plant, i will snap a pic and maybe you can give me a general idea of how shes doing. I had to remove some fan leaves that fried but she recovered i believe. Thanks partner

  11. I'M BACK! Unfortunately I had to go away for a while unexpectedly and my best friend couldn't take my 2 baby girls in so they got the chop. I had to shut down the lights for a few months because of some nosey cops and there was a hole in the old rotted out natural gas line going up my street. The gas company had to replace the line, which took a couple months as they worked right through the worst winter we've had in years. The gas company guys were in and out of my basement a good bit, I had to get my meter moved and things like that, so growing was a definite no-no until things got back to normal around here.

Glad I didn't get the whole way to flowering only to have to chop them due to the chance of being discovered.

Things were getting crazy back in November, A LOT of my friends got busted for bigger things than cannabis. The porkey's saw some text messages between me and a couple of my friends and they started nosing around trying to find out who I was. I always use burner cell phones, thank Goodness. The heat was ON for sure, but I laid low for a while and just closed up shop while I went to a rehab pretty far away to get help with a pain pill problem due to my 2 bad knees and back.

Now I am home and I feel a lot better, but I would feel GREAT if I had some nuggets so on to the next project!

How do I close a thread? I have 2 baby girls going that are about a week old and I was going to wait a another week or so to start a new journal once I know they are healthy. I sprouted them under CFL's and just got them set up under my 600w MH light today.

The funny thing about the new grow is that I sprouted 2 NL seeds and 1 Blue Mystic, I put them in the same washcloth to sprout and one died but I bumped the cloth after I got it wet one night and I'm not sure which beans are which strains. One looks to be NL for sure, and the other could possibly be a Blue Mystic but it doesn't have mutant leaves like all the rest so it may just be that super heavy Indica NL plant that I've been searching for! That would be awesome, because the NL i've grown so far have had a lot of sativa traits.

I still have the same light, a 600w MH/HPS conversion kit and I am using the same soil and everything. I started them out in smaller pots and just today I put the 2 girls into 5 gallon buckets. They are nice and perky so far, hope all goes well and I will be puffing on some quality buds within the next few months. My goal is to get these 2 about a foot tall and flower, just to get some cuttings and some quick bud to smoke because I haven't had any good bud in quite a while.

Stay tuned and watch for a new grow thread next week or so. It really sucks that I couldn't finish this grow out because the plants were really nice looking and smelled great as always.

  12. Here is a sneak peek at the next indoor run with my crappy camera phone. I took these yesterday after I hooked up the MH light. They are already responding and filling out, so I mixed in a little blood meal and bone meal into the edges of the soil around the lip of the buckets. I don't usually go crazy with the ferts, I like healthy plants that don't need a bunch of food to grow nice. So far  I have kept these plants fairly damp through germination and I am going to start cutting back on watering a bit so that the soil can dry out and give the roots a chance to dig in deep looking for moisture.

Northern Lights is the first picture, and the mystery seed (NL or Blue Mystic) is the second picture. I am pretty sure that the lone Blue Mystic seed died, but it may have got mixed up with the Northern Lights. The second plant looks to have that thick main stem that the Blue Mystics had, I'm waiting on more leaves to grow in so that I can compare the plant with pictures of my first and second grows to see what it is.

I ended up giving a good friend some beans, he moved away and I have lost touch with him! That figures, so I don't know how his plants turned out. I am down to 5 total Nirvana feminized seeds now. I bought these beans last February and have kept them in a dark dry place in the fridgerator. When I germed these 3 beans they all cracked open about 8 hours after I soaked them and I placed them in a wet wash cloth for a couple days, and that is where I may have mixed up the Blue Mystic and Northern Lights seed, I'm not 100% sure yet.

Once I get some nice girls established I need to start cloning to keep things going and stretch out what I have. I have 3 more Blue Mystic seeds and 2 Northern Lights left. Out of 10 Blue Mystic seeds 2 have died, they begin showing signs of life and crack open and then don't do anything after that. The little taproot just popped out of the shell and died on me twice. I need to make sure out of the 3 beans left that I get a nice mom.

I've seen some pics of really Indica Northern Lights online but when I grow it they usually have more Sativa traits like longer thinner leaves. I really hope the second plant pictured is the Indica Northern Lights pheno that I have been looking for.

  14. Awesome, yeah now that the plants have been under the MH for a couple days I can see the slight difference for sure. The NL has slightly thinner leaves, and it looks to be the Indica pheno I have been looking for after all! I'm happy about that. I haven't grown a strong Indica dominant NL plant since 2008.

I need to go look at your pics, I'm curious to see how your BM came along. I love that strain, I just always have strange mutations and so far the 3 or 4 I've had finish flowering went slightly hermie and made a few seeds through my buds but not many. I love how BM looks, I love how it tastes, I love everything about it I just need to get a plant that doesn't go hermie on me. If I find one like that I hope to clone the crap out of it.

  15. What a wonderfull smoke. It was my very first run so i only pulled 2 zips from her but man it was dense, smelled lovely, and loaded with trichs. I have 4 seeds from same order. I made the mistake of not rooting any cuttings. I hope my 4 beans left are as great as the first one i germed. Not one male stamen. Cant wait to watch yours grow!

  16. Here are some better pics of my new plants. I am fairly sure that the first 2 pictures are Blue Mystic, and the 3rd-5th pics are Northern Lights. Last picture is a group shot.

They are looking nice so far, 2nd day under the MH light and they are growing FAST. I can see a couple tiny little 5th nodes developing on both plants, when I put them under the MH light they had three nodes visible. What I can't believe so far is that the NL is growing faster than the BM! The last couple times the BM shot up much faster than the NL did. This NL looks very nice, I am excited to have these girls going and this should be a fun ride.

I am really glad that things have settled down around here to the point where I am comfortable giving these beans another run, and I am fortunate enough to have 5 more beans for the next run or two as well. These seeds are full of life, and seem to crack open just as quickly as they did last Feb when I got them. Nirvana is a great source, these are my first 4 packs of feminized seed though and honestly I don't think I'd order them again due to the hermie issues I've been having with all my Blue Mystic girls. My next order might be for a couple new strains and a pack of regular Blue Mystic seeds to give them a try and see if it helps cut down on the mutations and hermies.

I'm glad to be back and this journal just might shape up to be something nice after all. Since I have the same 2 strains as in the title I might as well just keep this thread going as opposed to opening a new one.

  18. That plant looks GREAT! Blue Mystic tastes great and honestly it hits me almost instantly when I smoke it, I've NEVER in my LIFE had bud get me stoned that fast. The good thing about it is that it hits real hard almost immediately then mellows out over a few hours to where you can function in public. The Northern Lights I have been growing is the opposite, it doesn't get me super stoned right off the bat but it lasts much longer. I love couch-lock bud, not a big fan of the clearheaded Sativa high myself because when I was younger that is all you could find around my area was dirt Sativa and mid grade Sativa/Indica hybrids. At my first music festival I met Northern Lights and fell in love with her, it was my first "brand name" strain weed I ever smoked and it is a quality bud which many of the indoor strains being bred out today originate from in some way or another.

I really hope that the Blue Mystic plants from this 5-pack are luckier than the last 5-pack of BM that I already grew. I had 1 die from the first pack, and I ended up having 2 make it to harvest in the end. I tried a couple BM's outside but they got ate up by something probably a deer. I had a couple NL bushes outdoors last summer and one of them turned out to be some of the best outdoor bud I ever grew, but it just didn't produce too much. What I did end up with was A+++ though!

I wish I would have took some pics of my outdoor efforts last year, but I just wasn't worried about it because I stuck the plants out in the shrubs and only get to visit them once every couple weeks because of the spot they were in. You'd never guess that there were plants growing in this spot, and since the land owner told me I can't do it again I guess I can say where it was....in a family member's brush pile lol! They would only let me put a couple in there every year, but this year they need to clear out the brush pile to make their property look nicer so its no longer an option unfortunately.

The first time I grew in that spot I had 2 Purple Urkle x Chemdawg plants that were amazing! Frost covered purple buds.

  19. Wow, super nice...here was a nug off my Blue Mystic from last harvest indoors. I can't find the big nugget pics this is a side branch nug, but you can see the crystals that were all over the bud.
