Caught by Mom, She is okay with Weed but insistent its a gateway drug

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by anonguy213, Oct 12, 2013.

  1. So yeah,

Been doing it for like a year? 18 now, on a gap year. So I dont smoke that much really, an 1/8th a fortnight between me and a friend. Stop completely before exams and other important things or when we want to cut down. So even the 1/8th a fortnight over the year has been only really like 4-6 months of the year.

Problem is my mum nows i do it, (my behaviour, munchies, red eyes, etc.)

I came clean with her, at the end she agreed with me that Weed is harmless in moderation and at the extent i do it. What she wont let go is that she is certain it is a gateway drug. She keeps telling me no matter what i do and how much i resist smoking Weed will lead to harder drugs. The thing I cant convice her is that I never want to do anything harder EVER. Tried md once and hated it. Even weed im taking controll over and not letting myself do it to much.

Thing is a friend of hers started on weed and got onto harder stuff. She wont understand that wont happen to me.

I respect her wish for me to stop, but I really do enjoy doing it with my friend on ocassion. Even if i never do it near her and she never notices i will feel bad. Want her to stop worrying and realize i have controll over my life.

Abuse is very different to recreational use.

Told her the same is true of alcohol but no luck. (dont like drinking really, rarely do.)

How do i convice her i wont get on to harder stuff?

    Cheers :)

  2. You can't convince her. She is experiencing an emotional state over her friend. In the short term, keep your nose clean. For the long run, work hard and be successful. Mum will have no argument with a clean hardworking kid who is doing well in life.

  3. I hate the whole marijuana is a gateway drug argument.  I would argue that its not cannabis leading its users to harder drugs, but rather the people who are selling cannabis and your peers your using it with.  I'm not saying all dealers will try to push harder drugs on you, but many know that cannabis has very little profit compared to other illegal substances.

  4. Maybe one or more of these will help?

It is actually getting harder to find studies on the "Gateway Effect" since it has been so thoroughly disproven! It is the DEALER who sells multiple drugs who is the gateway, not cannabis use! In California and other states where there are dispensaries, the temptation to buy "something stronger" never comes up, since cannabis is their ONLY product!

  5. It's only a gateway when you realize people have been lying to you your whole life about this so what else are they lying about?

  6. You only move onto other drugs if you want to. But yeah in a way, if you are weak, being around Marijuana increases the chance of being around other drugs and you could move onto them only if you wanted to, or be retarded and get peer pressured into them.

  7. Marijuana isn't a gateway drug to other drugs.. It's a gateway drug to the black market were other drugs are easily obtained and almost shoved in your face at times

  8. I wouldn't even say its being weak.  A lot of peer pressure comes from peers just talking about fun experiences they had with unmentionables and it can create a curiosity to try those substances;  I know that's why I tried certain unmentionables.

  9. Same with me, but I would never take something that I didn't want to do so its impossible to call it gateway. In a sense you started this chain reaction to eventually try other things if you never had friends and never smoked weed you would probably never do any drugs

  10. If you have a Netflix account.. Search for the Union and ask her to watch it.  Lots of research behind this film..

What I'm saying is that its not cannabis that makes us try new drugs, but rather the people we surround ourselves with.  If the only thing you've ever tried was cannabis and you only hang out with people who have consumed cannabis there's a much less likely chance you'll try another substance; however, if you hang out with people who have consumed cannabis as well as other substances your much more likely to try those substances as well in my opinion.  I do agree that cannabis does bring these people together because its a rather safe, abundant, and popular substance, but if it was legalized and regulated people wouldn't be exposed to those who have tried other substances as often.
