Is weed really a gateway drug?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by PickaTaylor, Sep 4, 2013.

  1. Marijuana the gateway drug.  This is totally nonsense, I have been puffing almost non stop for 35 years and I have never been interested in trying anything else (excluding Hash).  It is my experience people that move on to other drugs pretty much would have done so without the use of Pot.  I work in a profession job and climbed the ladder and remained extremely discrete at the same time, only smoking with a small circle of friends during those 35 years.  I don't sit in bars, I'm not burnt out and it hasn't made me stupid.  I've been married for 20 years with 3 kids and they don't even know that I puff.  Now my wife knows that I used too, and as far as I'm concerned she can keep believing that. Honestly if I had to choose between beer and weed, I would roll the weed every time.  No Hangovers and it doesn't make you mean or want to fight and you'll never have to apologize for something you did while you were drunk!

Within the next few years medical pot will be legal in almost every state and most states for social use.  So if you are new to its use take my advise and do like I have done for 35 years "Control your weed, don't let your weed control you"!  If you can do this you'll never have to worry about not being able to pay your bills or buying something to eat....

    Enjoy natures finest!

  2.
    can't tell if sarcastic or..

  3. It's a gateway drug to the fridge... Or McDonald's

  4. If weed had never existed, the "gateway" label would just been slapped on something else, but mean more on any other drug. IMO, cannabis being the least mind altering, they figure they'll target since they see drugs as a "ladder" type "hobby", climbing your way to the top. The thing is, whether the first thing you try is cannabis or "H", some people's mental makeup is going to tell them they want stronger, longer, more and others will be content with "just enough" to help them feel better in this sometimes shitty world.

Weed was the first drug I ever tried. I tried other drugs, not because I was looking for something stronger, but because I wanted to see what the hype was about on some of the others, but strictly telling myself that one time was it, sort of experimental evaluation. Anyway, I think having that mindset going in, it helped me not really care for anything else. Weed makes me feel "perfect", if there is such a thing. I will be content smoking cannabis until the day that I die and never needing anything more.

  5. ehh. i do alot of other umentionables. i understand i make you guys look bad. but hear me out. everyone smokes pot. especially before they go into bigger drugs. i dont think anyone whos tried meth hasnt smoked weed before. but thats just because everyone smokes. and if your ok with doing meth you definetly woudnt think bad about weed. so therfore youd smoke it. but no ive never had smoked weed and went i feal like geting some white today. i would think that eitherway.the weed didnt make me think that.

  6. Cigarettes are a gateway drug. Who knows an heroin addict who doesn't smoke cigarettes?
Replace heroin with any other hard drugs...

  7. can u ip ban a dynamic ip? not a gatway drug its a sit on the couch drug

  8. I see it as a gateway in that for some people, obtaining the herb requires them to visit some unsavory individuals with other drugs that are more profitable for them so they push those over the herb. Someone with poor self control or an addictive personallity runs into that situation and weed could become their gateway.

  9. Im 33, been puffing since i was a teen.
    Dont drink alcohol
    No other drugs..
Im content with pot, but it does get me lazy and a bit paranoid.

Yes weed isnt a "gateway drug".... for me..
But it has been for many people i know.
If they didnt have weed theyd have started off with something else.
Some personalities just want to f**k themselves up. For them, anything is a gateway drug.

  10. Agreed. Exactly my point as well in my post a few up from yours. Certain personalities are addictive before ever getting addicted...

  11. I think any drugs are a gateway drug...including alcohol, nicotine, and even caffeine.

I used to say that I did not believe marijuana was a gateway drug.  When I reflect honestly on my hefty amount of time done experimenting with various drugs, I start to wonder if I would have tried any of them had I not tried marijuana, at least initially.
Smoking weed for the first time for me was super scary and produced an adrenaline-like effect until I got to the point where I was "high," then I just felt euphoric and like life was all good.
Fast forward only a few months later and I'm already using alcohol with weed, and smoking weed all day every day.  I got to the point where weed wasn't even a drug, to me.
So, trying other "unmentionables" was a lot easier for me.
And I am thankful for being experienced with Mary before trying other ladies like Lucy because I don't think I would have been able to handle the trip.
But weed did get me thinking things like: "I wonder how much more relaxed I can get, how much number I can get, how much trippier my world can be perceived, and how else can I alter my perception of reality, period...etc?"

The real trouble started with the opiate experimentation, tbh, though...

  12. Yes, it is if your a stupid teen thinking your cool because you pop xanax and adderal. Otherwise if you're mature it isn't a gateway drug. I don't think anyone should smoke weed if they aren't mature enough to grasp that it CAN lead to other drugs if you don't have the common sense to say fuck that.
