Illinois Medical Marijuana law?

Discussion in 'Marijuana News' started by PsychoPenguin, Aug 24, 2013.

  1. Hi,

I live in Illinois and people have been saying different things about the law. I have bad anxiety issues and my friend said you can get it fir that. But I also heard it was one of the strictest medical marijuana states. Does anyone on here live in Illinois and have their card? Or know anything about the laws here?

    Thanks!

  2. I dont know the list of symptoms off top of head but youre right on the fact thats its gonna be one of the strictest. Its gonna be really hard IMO to get it for anxiety.

The actual bill wont take effect until Jan 2014 anyway, so we still couple months away, not including how long it takes to grow the plants and get it out to the public. I heard there would be pretty controlled 21 dispenseries dispersed throughout the state as well.

  3. Yea you can't get it for anxiety. It's only for really bad illnesses. If you google it you can find it easy. I'm in Illinois and hopefully they update it by the time it comes out in jan. but either way my dad is getting it for epilepsy.

  4. Read the bill (now law)  here:

     http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/billstatus.asp?DocNum=1&GAID=12&GA=98&DocTypeID=HB&LegID=68357&SessionID=85

Read the full text and at least the first amendment....

There will be 22 grow-ops licensed, and the grow -ops will be spread throughout the state (the grow -ops are limited to one grow-op per State Police District and must report to the state police and allow inspection at any time by any officer of the state)

There will be 60 dispensaries licensed for the state
Fun fact: Illinois has a population of 14 million and is allowing 60 dispensaries -- or one dispensary for every 233,000 residents
Oregon has a population of 4 million and is allowing 200 dispensaries -- or one for every 20,000 residents

The law is very strict,  there are about 35 listed conditions that are covered  --things like cancer, MS, ALS, etc.
however, the law does have an option that will allow patients (and their caregivers) to petition the government to add additional conditions....one of the first to be added will be PTSD as there are veterans groups already working on this......

The time line for MMJ to be available is something like this:

    Jan 1, 2014 -- Law takes effect

Then the state agencies have up to 180 days to write the regulations, set the fees, create the applications, issue the licenses for growers, issue the licenses to the dispensaries,

After the growers are licensed, then they can start growing.......

So we should see  dispensaries opening with product about September of 2014 -- so about a year from now  (if we're lucky)

  5. Thanks everyone!
Whenever I searched all I could find were older articles about it.

I'm definitely going to check out petitioning to add anxiety to the list of conditions. It should also be available to anyone who has a condition it can be used to treat. I have a stomach ulcer and it's hands down the best thing I've found for pain and stuff related to my stomach. (and believe me, I was skeptical)

Anyway, I believe it should be legal outright, and at least this is a step in the right direction.

  6. You can always move to a more pot friendly state that already has a structure in place. Wa. or Co. have legalized recreational...you wont need a card in either of them states. IF moving is an option ask some of our most excellent Blades here at GC which states have the most lax restrictions for MMJ cards. I myself am moving to California which has quite loose standards and will have no problem getting a card for my...ahem...back pain.

  7. Do you have either acid reflux disease, or irritable bowel disease? I have read the bill, and it seems to me you could get it for one of these conditions with the right doctor. A lot of Americans have one of these, or both. But many go undiagnosed. Hell, I have both. If I lived in Illinois I would definitely be using them to try to get a script. Unfortunately I live in Missouri and it will be awhile before we get it here.

  8. Actually, I have U.C., which is similar to Crohn's disease. I just don't tell many people.

  9. If you have u.c., you should be able to get a script.

  11. Hi fellow blades,

If your state does not have med mj, can you go to a neighboring state that does allow it, and get it? without being a resident? thanks, happy labor day wknd to all you fellow blades! holler

  12. I also would like to know more on this...

  13. Washington state, and Co. will allow non residents to purchase small amounts once their systems are in place. I heard Oregon will issue cards to non residents, but that was just something I read on here and have not researched this myself. Other than that in most cases...NO.

  14.
The Illinois law SPECIFICALLY does not allow this.....a few of the regulations from the Illinois law:

you must be a resident of Illinois,
you must have a long standing (more than 90 days) relationship with your Illinois licensed Dr,
you must be registered with the Illinois State Police ,

I could go on, but you get the idea......
