How much MMJ do you use and for what ailments?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by forever808, Aug 19, 2013.

  1. I am still in the learning stages of everything concerning MMJ. I am wondering if you all would answer some questions for me so that I can learn from what works best for you so that I can apply it to my own situation. If you do not have a medical condition, I am still curious about the questions so you can answer if you would like. I am trying to compare my situation with others to try to see what improvements or changes I can make to get the most benefit out of all of this.

    1.  What medical issues do you have (if any)?
    2.  How much improvement do you achieve with MMJ? Ex: I have severe insomnia and debilitating chronic pain and am non-functioning without MMJ but am hoping to get back into the workforce since MMJ has helped me tremendously. I still have lots of pain and fatigue and other issues but the improvements are HUGE.
    3.  What methods of ingestion do you normally use, and which do you prefer? ie: smoking, vaping, edibles, etc.
    4.  How much MMJ do you typically consume on a monthly average?
    5.  Are you happy with your usage amounts or would you prefer to do more/less?
    6.  Do you typically use only one strain or do you use multiple strains based on which issues you are having at the time?
    7.  How long have you been using MMJ? If it has been a long period of time do you notice the effects decreasing over time and do you have to ingest more? If so, are there ways to prevent this from happening?
    8.  Do you have any additional information or tips for a newbie still trying to figure this whole thing out?

Thanks everyone! There is still so much for me to learn and I have a hard time figuring out if my methods are consistent with others' experiences.

  2. 1.  What medical issues do you have (if any)?
    - Upper Gastrointestinal issues that cause vomiting multiples times daily. Lower Gastrointestinal issues (Severe IBS). Chronic shoulder pain from muscle deterioration (likely cause of pitching in baseball). Also have some sort of skin disease that causes horrible itching when I sweat, am in humid/warm rooms or out in the sun. MMJ isn't recommended for that, but the others, it is. Also an insomniac, but that's not a legitimate reason in my state.
    - When medicating, my vomiting is non existant. Lower GI issues improve as well, but are not totally eliminated. Shoulder pain is numbed substancially (from a constant 7 down to about a 2).
    3.  What methods of ingestion do you normally use, and which do you prefer? ie: smoking, vaping, edibles, etc.
    - Smoking has been my route of consumption in the past. Working on switching to vaporizing primarily with the occasional smoking in the near future. Will also help being more discreet in public. Also plan to incorporate edibles and drinks for this reason as well.
    4.  How much MMJ do you typically consume on a monthly average?
    - When I have it, I consume about 1.5 Ounces a month maximum (when pain is at its worst). When I'm going through less or need to make sure I'm fairly functional for various purposes, approximately 1 Ounce, give or take a couple grams.
    5.  Are you happy with your usage amounts or would you prefer to do more/less?
    - I'm content with it, but in a perfect world, I'd stay medicated all the time. As an adult, I have responsibilities and certain criteria that I make myself follow. If I plan on going anywhere, I don't medicate if I'm driving (just personal preference) and I don't medicate as much as needed throughout the day to eliminate pain entirely. I like to remain almost 100% functional during the day, but will medicate heavily at night.
    6.  Do you typically use only one strain or do you use multiple strains based on which issues you are having at the time?
    - Multiple strains, changing it up all the time. Sativa is mainly from when I wake up (5-6AM) up until about 3-4 in the afternoon. From there, I'll switch to a slightly Indica hybrid until 9-10PM. A mostly Indica Hybrid or Pure Indica is then used to help me fall asleep easier around 11-12PM. Without it, I get to sleep around 3AM and still wake up between 5-6AM due to my internal clock. Sleep isn't something I get a lot of.
    7.  How long have you been using MMJ? If it has been a long period of time do you notice the effects decreasing over time and do you have to ingest more? If so, are there ways to prevent this from happening?
    - I have been using cannabis for medical purposes for a few years now under a doctor's recommendation. Prior to that, I noticed the medical value of cannabis and was using it for some of my issues since about 18 years old (when my shoulder pain really started to surface). I have had to raise my amount to consume slightly, but I never really "over medicate" except once every blue moon. Only consuming what is needed helps prevent my tolerance from raising too fast.
    8.  Do you have any additional information or tips for a newbie still trying to figure this whole thing out?
    - Moderation is key. Start with little amounts and find out what works for you while still remaining functional. It's nice to be melting into your bed or couch every once in a while from a strong indica, but the medicinal value is key for me and using only as much as I need helps me keep medicine on hand at all times. Personally, I try to stay away from Sativa at night as it will keep me from sleeping at all. Hope the information I provided helps and if you have anymore questions, feel free to message me and I'll do my best to help you out.

  3. Pie Romania, thank you so much for your replies. I have a few of the same health problems as you (in addition to too many others) and have also noticed improvement in those areas. I have only used edibles so do you find that smoking helps you better or do you just prefer it for other reasons? I have considered getting a vaporizer when I can afford it, but I have never used one before. When you smoke, about how long are the effects? I can get several hours (up to around 6 or so) of relief with edibles but I consume very little. Due to finances and having a seriously hard time locating the MMJ I tend to use around a quarter to half ounce a month. I'm wondering if I should switch my methods up a little and incorporate smoking along with the edibles.

    Thanks again!

I started consuming early (12-13 years old) and much like most people, I started off smoking. The effects are almost felt instantaneously, I like all the rituals that come with it, etc. There are quite a few variables that dictate how long something will last for me via smoking. I'd say (on average), I get about 2-2.5 hours of relief before I feel the pain start to melt back through my skin. If you're having trouble with quantity, the best suggestions that I can offer are vaporization and concentrates if you can find high quantity of something at a relatively low price and either know someone or study and make it yourself. If you plan to make it yourself, start with small batches until you find out what works so you don't botch a whole pound or something.

Something I've never done personally, but heard that it helps conserve a bit (not sure how true this is), but tincture has been brought up to me for times when money is short. I highly suggest scouring the net and trying to find out as much information as you possibly can on every aspect. I'm sure you're already doing that, but figured it won't hurt to bring it up. If you have anymore specific question for me, feel free to send a private message and I will do my best to help you out with any information I can offer or links to send your direction.

Edit: What state are you located in if you don't mind me asking? Feel free to reply to that in PM as well if you'd like.
