Drum and Bugle corps, anyone?

  1. Does anyone listen to drum corps music? If so, do you have a favorite corps/year/ etc?

No, it's not the marching band you remember from your high school days, these folks can really PLAY! (although there are several really good high school marching bands, but I digress)

My favorite would have to be the Madison Scouts. Great shows, musically. They aren't really known for their fantastic visual performances, but they REALLY deliver in the sound department! My current favorite show of theirs is their 1981 contest piece. FANTASTIC final movement, and the pit percussion feature in the 3rd movement is a favorite of mine (then again, I'm a pit percussion person, so I might be a bit biased :) )

If you like classical music with an "edge" to it, I suggest you give it a try! Nothing compares to a live performance and you probably won't find a CD in any store, but they're abundant in places like Kazaa and the like if you don't mind the illegality of it. Also, the full shows can run up to almost 15 minutes, so you'll either need a LOT of patience or bandwidth!

  2. I can't believe after 13 years nobody has replied to this thread. I know soo many stoners that march!
