Raw Cannabis

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Tree dogg, Aug 4, 2013.

  1. Does anyone have info on the benefits or use of raw cannabis?

  2. the benefits would be the same, but considerably, considerably less potent. Its speculated that eating raw cannabis is how humans first discovered its effects, but we really don't absorb the active components as well from simply eating raw cannabis as we do via more advanced techniques.

That being said, raw cannabis can be quite tasty and I think it would make an excellent seasoning herb. Unfortunately its rather expensive so few people would be willing to use it as such instead of for its drug effects. If it were abundant enough, I would totally just sprinkle weed on my pasta and chicken and such, just for flavor.

  3. Raw or inactive cannabinoids (as well as other raw components of the plant!) definitely have great medicinal value, but absorbing those components efficiently is another matter, entirely! :)

It requires processing the material into a bioavailable solution in order to facilitate absorption, so by some definitions, the material would no longer be considered 'raw' because it's no longer whole, or intact, even if its chemical components are still intact and in their original condition.

However, where you can extract using no heat during the extraction or while producing a bioavailable solution, in order to avoid activating your existing cannabinoids, then by the definition applied to many foods and oil products where process-induced enzyme and/or nutritional degradation is concerned, the end product technically IS still considered 'raw' where little to no degradation occurs, and to boot you're benefiting from much more complete absorption. :)

Plus if you process cold, and choose to leave the whole plant matter in the mix, then for all intents and purposes it's raw by all but the very 'most strict' definitions*!

(*And not to call those definitions arbitrary, but they do come down to the fact you've simply shredded and divided the plant matter into separate pieces, when in reality, even if it was a whole bud, you'd still be chewing it in your mouth and breaking it up before swallowing it anyway... and this way, at least you get to absorb the better portion of its contents! :p )

Here's an old post on producing a carboxylic-acid intact, or an 'inactive' oil (compared to the 'active' cannabinoids created upon decarboxylation, induced with heat)....

    _______________

You can easily make your own edible oil and edibles, and control the level of 'activation' as well as the amount of cannabinoid
conversion (ie. limiting the creation of metabolites such as the 'intoxicating' or narcotic CBN, formed by the degradation
of THC). Using different solvents, you can also extract different, medicinally beneficial components, beyond cannabinoids...
Washing with alcohol first, can strip more chlorophyll and alkaloid-salts, you can resoak the plant matter with coconut oil to
recover any oil soluble components left untouched by the alcohol, and after straining, combine the resulting coconut oil with
your alcohol wash and purge off the alcohol at room temp, for a 'complete', and yet still-raw cannabis experience.

    :yay:

By doing so, and by avoiding the steps that make cannabis more narcotic for extreme pain patients... the same steps that often
make cannabis enjoyable for recreational users... you can start to multiply your dose or daily intake, without any, or
as many of the 'recreational' side-effects. :yay:

Increasing the exposure to carboxylic-acid-intact cannabinoids, and limiting exposure to the 'decarboxylated' cannabinoids
predominantly contained in most edibles, can benefit people with seizures, cancer, MS and other debilitating conditions and
diseases, who often benefit the most from very high doses.

THCA, CBDA, CBNA, CBGA and other major and minor cannabinoids (over 80 cannabinoids have been 'identified' in
cannabis alone!) when kept in their, to recreational users, 'inactive' forms, have powerful medicinal value and can be
taken at higher doses, without the stupor and recreational side-effects.

*** Inactive is the term most traditionally and commonly used, due to the overwhelmingly desired effects produced
by THC/CBN/CBG etc..... but medicinally and therapeutically, carboxylic acid intact cannabinoids (THCA/CBNA/
    CBDA/CBGA+) are VERY active! ***

You can increase the level of overall cannabinoid and terpene exposure, even in addition to a small amount of '*active'
or carboxyl-group detached cannabinoids, without being tossed into a narcotic stupor, leaving you more functional and
able to handle your day to day activities.

(* - Again, that's THC, CBN or other cannabinoids, without the 'A'; that detachment, or the removal of carboxylic
acid known as 'decarboxylation', is responsible for the heightened cerebral effects, loss of sensation and coordination, and
narcotic stupor people feel, and medicinally and recreationally, often desire of their meds.)

I know that's probably more than you were looking to hear! [IMG]

But I always like to share they 'why', before I share the 'how'... it makes the mechanics, and the importance of each
step behind the tutorials, make more sense. [IMG]

The below photo tutorials will walk you through using a cold extraction, in order to avoid excessive or 'all' decarboxylation.

By doing so, you can promote bioavailability, while retaining the most 'inactive' cannabinoids, which again are virtually
just as beneficial as their recreationally 'active' counterparts when it comes to: *** anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer/anti-
    mutagenic, analgesic
and other known medicinal properties! [IMG]

If video tutorials are more useful for you, these may help too!  (** edit - Again some, but not all of the below are raw, but they are still very useful, and the topical may be made with raw oil by adding and whisking it in very last, just as the base cools!)

Both Rick Simpson and I were the headlining 'star speakers' of the Cannabis World Summit, the Summit is an annual, 10-day, free and informative event, available to all members of our community who are interested in cannabis, in its medical applications, and in what the major players in the community are up to. :)

Nine of the ten days featured three or more speakers for each day, Rick and I were asked to share the Big 4/20 day of the Summit alone due to the volume of content we provided the community, and to our track records with treating and even curing cancer, as well as other illnesses, with our medical oils! My medical oil video tutorials, Rick's interview, and his documentaries can be found on Day 5 / 4-20-2013, along with some bonus footage from Rick.
