How's it going, folks? I'm a long time fan of the forum and a new member, with a question in regards to vaporizers.

I'm sure this question's been posted a bunch of times, but I'd like some answers specifically for me if possible.

Everyone I've spoken to raves about vaporizers being smoother, more efficient, and most importantly healthier than smoking a joint. The problem is I have absolutely ZERO idea about how a vape works and what it takes to maintain it, where to get one, etc.

Of course, I don't want to bother anyone for a Wikipedia explanation, I just need some advice on things such as:

    - What would be a great vaporizer to buy for someone who has very little knowledge of them? Money isn't really an issue, but I also can't justify spending $400+ when a pack of papers is less than a buck.

    - What's the typical maintenance for a vaporizer? Is there a lot of cleaning involved? Is there any additional accessories I have to buy to maintain a good vape? Or is it as easy as I'm hoping it is.

    - Do I need anything in addition to the vaporizer (other than the medicinals obviously)? Any oils or stuff like that? Or is it as easy as, charge and bake upon delivery?

    - Are there any downsides? Loud noises? Lingering smells?

    - How easy is it to use? Is it a long process to get going or is it as easy as placing some herb inside and enjoying?

As far as preferences, I don't need to conceal anything so size isn't a factor but the more portable, the better. Ideally, I'd like something that I can use and throw into my thin box along with my lighters, papers, etc.

Also, I don't plan on carrying it around outside or whatever, I just need a good one for home use.

Any useful tips/info in general would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading, guys!

P.S.- I've done a bit of research on the DaVinci Ascent and I like what I see, but I dunno if it's the right choice for a novice.

I really like my Da Buddah. It's pretty perfect for home use. It was recommended to me here when I wanted to switch to vaping. It's perfect if you're not going to sharing with crowds. It doesn't take much upkeep at all. The heater cover needs to be cleaned with alcohol occasionally, and the whip might need wiping out once in awhile too, but it's a minimum amount of up keep.

  3. How's the smell with it? like the smoke is it like something you can do inside without your entire place smelling like pot?

    - Great vapes under $400?
Many will testify to different vapes, but I would personally recommend MFLB or Pax as an introductory vape (portables). Also the SSV or Arizer Extreme Q (plug in). The MFLB particularly has often been reviewed as a beginners' vape because of its extreme simplicity.

    - What's the typical maintenance for a vaporizer?
In my opinion, not much. Cleaning is really the only issue. I've only seen that the Pax has to be cleaned every few sessions, and many connoisseurs have said that Pax oven chambers can be hard to clean, but that's not to say that that would be a high or low annoyance factor for you.

To add to terms of difficulty, some may complain about plug-in vaporizers taking too long to heat (or with portables, having to recharge. Essentially, timing is a relatively slower than the traditional lighting of a bowl.) Also, for plug-in vapes in particular, finding the best temperature that will maximize the effects of the herb, and learning how to maintain that temperature, requires some technique and time.

In short- most vapes have a learning curve to get used to it. But in my opinion, it's an investment that really pays off. You can get higher with the same amount of herb (or less than, in very high quality vapes), because vaporizing can maximize human absorption better than combustion/smoking. Also, it is much healthier, as there is a great reduction in carbon monoxide/nitrogens/tar.

    - Are there any additional accessories I have to buy to maintain a good vape?
For portables, expect to buy batteries. Adapters/Car chargers can also expand the utility of your portable, but are not required.

For digital plug ins, you usually get a setup of everything you need. There are bags, whips, percs, and other attachments that you can get to get a different experience, though.

    - Do I need anything in addition to the vaporizer (other than the medicinals obviously)? Any oils or stuff like that? Or is it as easy as, charge and bake upon delivery?
Just the herb. Some do let you have the option to use concentrates.

    - Are there any downsides? Loud noises? Lingering smells?
Some fans for plug ins are loud, such as the Extreme Q. Portables are almost always quiet.

Smells may be present, but as there is much less tar and smoke, there is much less odor compared to traditional smoking.

    - How easy is it to use? Is it a long process to get going or is it as easy as placing some herb inside and enjoying?
In my opinion, pretty easy, but only if you read instructions. That said, learning how to use the vapes is really not rocket science. Just a new process of doing something.

All in all, my opinion. There are videos, manuals, articles, websites, and forums to learn everything you need to know. The more you know, the more you get out of your investment.

    Good luck!

  5. I love this community! Thank you so much for the helpful info, guys.

I'm gonna check out the Buddah and the MFLB pieces.

    Thanks again!

  6. Check out the vapir one it retails for under 100$ on ebay , it's a bag and whip vaporizer, heats up extremely quick and produces excellent vapor, the only downside is its a bit loud with the fan. The same company also offer the Vapir No2 it's a "portable" vape it's about the size of a water bottle and also retails under 100$ it's only a stem draw vape ( no fan or bags)

  7. Personally the mflb is a alright vape it's just to hard to learn how to hit and produces the least amount of vapor out of any vaporizer ive ever used even with a long slow draw compared to other vaporizers

  8. I don't think it's hard to learn to use the MFLB. All you have to do is watch the video.

If you're worried about the smell, either that or the Iolite have the least smell. I hate the Iolite, because I hate filling it with Butane.

I love my MFLB and charging the batteries is no big deal. It's flimsy though. I've had to send away twice for their great warranty service when it stops working. It's not that big of a deal to go through the warranty process, but then you're without it for awhile.

  9. Yeah, guys, the more I look into it, the more I like the MFLB. The Vapir sounds kinda cool too though.

I don't like the smell lingering in my house too long, but it's not really a factor ultimately.

You mentioned videos, daisy, do you know any particular tutorials/videos that you think would be useful to watch?

  10. Just go to the MFLB website. I am sure the video on how to do the micro hits is on their web site. It works better to take short small hits because it heats the box up better.

If you blew out into a paper towel tube filled with dryer sheets, you wouldn't have a smell.  People like to blow out big clouds of vapor, but really with the MFLB, you could make the hits small, hold it in, and your lungs absorb it. There would be nothing to blow out.

  11. Here's Magic Flight's video page: http://magic-flight.com/videos.php

They are a must watch, there is a learning curve with the MFLB but it is worth it once you learn.
I got so hooked on my MFLB I got their Power Adapter that allows you to plug into the wall instead of constant battery charging.

  12. mflb has excellent customer service. if anything is wrong with your MFLB , with a couple of emails they'll send you a new one free at charge and all you gotta do is take some pics after you destroy the box.

  13. Like everyone is saying the MFLB is a good vaporizer, but its likes comparing a soda can with a hole cut in it to a Roor bong, yeah it will do the job, but in my personal opinion the MFLB just doesn't cut it for me and as soon as I bought my Vapir One my MFLB spends most of its days lent to one of my good friends. The only selling point in my opinion for the MFLB is the lifetime warranty, which isn't hard to understand why it looks like it cost about 1$ to make one of them.. Just a box of wood with a simple heating element. But if your looking for a quality portable vaporizer I suggest you look at the Da Vinci it's about 115$ on EBay right now. I suggest you look up videos for the MFLB and afterwords look up the Da Vinci, you'll notice a dramatic difference in the amount of vapor produced and how much easier the Da Vinci is to use.

Very short on time, maybe I'll write a more detailed response later. First of all, do not fall into the hype of the magic flight launch box, it is awful compared to other vaporizers. I had one and got rid of it the week after I got my arizer solo.

If you want a portable vape that is durable and has little smell I recommend the arizer solo, you can get it new from an authorized vendor on ebay for $145. That combined with a smoke buddy and you have very little smell. For non-portable vapes I have a plenty vaporizer and a volcano vaporizer, both are amazing and both are plug in. The plenty is around $300 and I'd say is probably overpriced, but you get what you pay for. The plenty smells a lot more but still combined with a smoke buddy and some ozium you'll be good. The volcano is phenominal, however it is a lot more money.

I've never used da buddah or a silver surfer vape, but I've heard great things. I think you can get a silver surfer for around $200, based on friends having them and reading reviews you wouldn't be disapointed. I can't comment on the smell due to never using one.

If you want to spend <$150 get the arizer solo and if you want to spend <$250 get the silver surfer. If you are okay spending upwards of $350 then I highly recommend the plenty vaporizer.

I just got a vapor genie coil for $35 as my first vape. I figured no big deal if I didn't like it.. Took me a few bowls to get used to it and it gets me pretty baked. Obviously its not going up against $100+ vapes others are recommending but for me its a perfect introductory vape and it does work! Also because of the shape of the piece it's perfect for a home made vapor bong

  16. I've personally have a Da Vinci Original, it's extremely easy to use just set the temperature to 375 degrees, pack some grounded up herb and watch the vapor clouds. As far as the Da Vinci Ascent I would imagine it being just as easy and probably produce better quality vape considering its the first portable with an all glass vapor path and a ceramic heatin chamber. Da Vinci Ascent is 245$ (Ebay) where the Original Da Vinci is 115$ (Ebay).

  17. The Ascent has not been released on the market yet.

  18. I guess the answer isn't as easy as I thought it'd be, haha -- seems like there's a lot of quality products. I might buy a couple and test which one I like most.

Any idea when it's gonna be release, Iwien?

According to DV, mid-August, but considering that they've already missed about 3 different release dates, who in the hell knows.

The factory has been very active in the following thread if you want to try and stay on top of this:  http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/ascent-vaporizer-by-davinci.9885/

  20. Good to know! Cause I could've sworn it was already out.

I might get the MFLB as an introduction and if I can get used to it, I think ideally, I'll get the Ascent or one of the other vapes you guys mentioned.

Again, thanks everyone, definitely picked up on some good info here.
