Method Of Using Marijuana Against Depression

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by V0YR, May 15, 2013.

1. As someone who uses marijuana to alleviate feelings of depression I was wondering what kind of regiments other people use to counter similar symptoms.

Typically I consume edibles two days a week when I don't have work. I don't smoke, I find this to be more of a social experience and don't really enjoy it by myself.

Has anyone got any advice for a stable dosage program or whatever?

2. I'd say "as needed".
It helps me alot with depression. I smoke it when I don't have edibles. I may need to smoke once a day, or once a week. Once I went over 3 weeks without. I smoke weed mostly for pain, but find it's also good for heartburn, apnea, and depression. I think edibles work better and the effect lasts a longer period of time, and without being so high. In fact I would prefer to eat it, but don't usually have enough to make treats.
Your 2 days a week sounds good for depression. I think that would work for me, if not for the pain issues. But you might be different. You might try 1 day a week and see how that works for you. Take more if you need it.

First off, you have to understand what is going on in your brain! Your body makes a compound called anandamide- it is your body's own version of THC!  Now normally the anandamide in your brain activates the CB1 receptors and you feel "normal". But anandamide is fragile and often breaks down before it can do its job of making you feel normal. New synthetic compounds are being developed to block the breakdown as shown in this article-

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/12/051213172852.htm

But those CB1 receptors have to be in working for the anandamide to do its job, and we have a BIG problem with "dud" CB1 receptors! Seems like you can't make them without Omega 3

No matter how much anandamide you make, if too many of the receptors are duds, your mood can't lift! When you start taking Omega 3, the long, slow process of replacing the duds can begin!

Now, the neat thing about THC is that it "looks" like anandamide to your body! It fits into the same CB1 receptors that anandamide does. So a person who is depressed and using cannabis to lift their mood, is somewhat like a person on thyroid replacement therapy. You are flooding your system with extra cannabinoids that have a better chance at connecting up with one of the remaining, working CB1 receptors. (THC is tougher than anandamide, too!)

THC is a temporary fix for depression. But it does get new brain cells being made which can speed up the replacement process. New cells have new receptors than are made right!

Fixing those non-working CB1 receptors is what needs to be done! Unfortunately, the average American diet is very low in Omega 3.  This affects both our physical and mental health!

4. As always, what Storm Crow said.

As for a more stable dosage, try a small nibble every day.

6.
You blew my mind with tis. I have been looking for help everywhere!  :bongin:

7. I've just recently started looking more at receptor health, but have been using cannabis for mental health for a while. I take about a Â¼ gram of RSO nightly and smoke recreationally. Since I started using cannabis again several years ago, I've weaned myself off all pharmaceuticals, including paxil, oxycontin/suboxone, and adderall. I also and have reduced my alcohol consumption to about 2 drinks per week and I exercise regularly. The two most critical factors in turning around my life were cannabis and regular exercise.

8.
Yes! Cannabis and exercise are powerful together. Stay strong  :bongin:

When I have really bad times, I just wake up and have my CBD and a medicinal dosage of sativa. It's like fighting pain by keeping it away; helps make sure I don't have to get upset/depressed before anything really happens -often mornings quickly become hard during bad days. I make my own pills, using BadKitty's recipe. Making them really light is key (depending on your tolerance) Adding CBD can also help make you able to function, if you are worried about being too medicated for work. It really evens it out.

Cheeba Chews Pure CBD, and homemade sativa pills (think right now it's Dragon's Breath) are my weapons against depression. I smoke regularly for fun, but the edibles are definitely the most noticeable. If needed, I might use a tincture for a fast acting relief, as I wait for the edibles to kick in.

Honestly, starting with mmj helped me be able to WANT to exercise and things like that (I am also dealing with horrible anxiety in regards to exercise, long story) so it was essential that I start with mmj, and make sure that exercise was a goal. They are powerful together.
