So I decided I want to do a little grow to keep me company during the cold autumn nights. Its a very small space as your about to see, so for seeds choice I chose a lowryder; which also means this grow should be done in about 2 months.

I opted to only grow out one plant at a time; once they get bigger I won't have room for more then one. Therefore if I ended up with multiple females, I would have to kill all but one. However lowryders begin to flower after 3 weeks so in a couple of weeks if it turns out to be a boy I can start over with not too much time lost.

I'm growing in some generic soil formulated for tomatoes, and I have 3 CFL lights on it now (13 watts, 60 watt replacements, 900 lumens each). I will be adding a few more in a couple of weeks once the plant is larger and I can get a small silent fan.

Welcome to my closet, the blinding white light is where the grow's at, in case you couldn't tell.

Sorry for the blur, not much to see so I didn't bother taking out the good camera, just used my phone.

Time for a victory smoke with yoda :-)

LOL. Closetgrows usually mean closets without clothing in it.
Those clothes are gonna reek reek really really bad if you keep 'em in there.
(the clothes I mean)

Also, a 60W fluro cannot do only 900 lumens.
Maybe 4k or 5k for 60W.
I bet you mean its a 6W fluro or so. Right?

Ahh my bad, they're 13 watts, 60 watt replacements. Thanks for noticing that. As for the clothes, Lowryder apparently has a barely noticable odor. Otherwise, I don't mind too much; I'll just spray a little cologne and it will all be good. As long as theres no cops outside my door on days that I'm wearing clothes from that closet.

Does lowryder also not reek when flowering?
I've never heard of odorless ganja.
Just make sure you don't ride public transport with your ganjaflavor outfit on.
People start looking at your very funny really quick.

My Oasis baby has NO smell at all. It's kinda disturbing. Half-way through flowering and it smells like a plant and nothing more (except for the garlic and vinegar, but even before they were down there she had no smell).

Lowryder isn't like most ganja. Lowryder is an indica that was crossed with cannabis ruderalis somewhere along the line. Doing this is what give Lowryder its "auto-flowering" characteristic (i.e. you don't need light timers, you can grow under 24 hours of light). It also gives it low smell, low height, and overall, low profile, leading to the name- lowryder.

Are your plants growing in/near your bedroom, or another room you spend most of your household time in? You can become so used to the smell as it builds gradually that you don't notice it there at all. To qoute HerbsINtheBurbs several days ago "...and my entire upstairs may or may not smell like marijuana".

Thanks to everyone who stopped by so far.

Nope, she's in my basement and I haven't noticed any smell whatsoever. But to be honest there is a shitload of garlic and vinegar smell going on down there so maybe it's masking it, I doubt it though.

Well, if you never leave the house, you'll never notice the smell. But if you go out for a few hours and then come back, and you got a few plants flowering in a room- you'l smell them. If you don't, you either got a bad nose or a stealthy strain.

Also, remember your fire safety. Fabric+light bulb+small space with no venting=danger. They are only 13w, so it should be ok, but keep it in mind.

Nice Yoda.

Thanks, but I'm fine. The lightbulbs are cool enough to hold after being on for days.

And thanks, hes even nicer when we're both really high (he always out-smokes me-- "dank this weed is, take another hit you must") ; then he teaches me the ways of the force.

Heres some cell phone pics showing the progress; they're blurry, but more just for me to keep a daily log. All seedlings look the same anyway; once I have something more to show I'll whip out the expensive camera-cell's just easier for uploading.

A good inch anda half, it really sprung up overnight (tissue there is to make the plant more visible.

UPDATE (6/25/06 19:00): I cut off the top and bottom of a pepsi can to put aroun the plant and bulb to concentrate the light in hopes of stimulating additional growth. Doesn't seem like its going to get to hot yet, but I'll be checking back in a couple of hours. It really looks alot brighter in that cylinder now though.

If you do a google search for lowryder seeds a bunch of sites will come up. Theres different versions of it now though that have been crossed with other bud to make it more potent and higher yielding, so you may want to look for those. However, I have heard alot of seed banks have been selling out lately because this is such a popular strain for inexperienced growers.

Anyways, updates:
The plant didn't gain much height, but the second set of leaves are larger and more pronounced. The first picture is what I was talking about in my last post. I took it off today; I may put it back later, I'm just afraid one day I'm going to come home and my plant will be wilted over.

And heres the plant today:

I see you are enthousiastic I appreciate that!

But you've also seem to have stuck a pressurized glass tube with hot plasma inside into a razorsharp metal can which keeps most of the heat inside to cook your plant.

Which would be more likely?
Broken CFL when you try to lift the can? Or fried plant before you do so?

Most likely fried plant :-/ thats why I took the can off earlier. From now on it will only be on aprx. 9 hours a day. Its seems to be working well though, yesterday the plant had grown 2 inches, today, it stayed about the same height, but the leaves grew alot more. Its concentrating the light evenly around the plant so the plant doesnt stretch towards the bulb.

Thanks, if I had a fan it would be more effective because then I could leave the can on 24/7 and not worry about too much heat. You should try it out though, you still have some small plants. I raise my glass to you as well.
Keep growin

I think you may have misunderstood. I only enclose the plant and the light with the refelective cylinder for 9 hours of the day. The cylinder seems to stimulate growth from all the relecting light, but it also gets hot after a few hours; hence why I leave it on for only 9 hours. The lights remain on 24/7 however.

Cool spectrum, soft light; And no I don't plan on changing. It's my first grow; I'm not growing this for much yield or potency, just as a little side hobby and to ease myself up to a a full scale grow.

I added another light today, temporarily; I want to see how it affects humidity and temperature first. So thats 4 lights in total - 3,600 lumens. Two right next to the plant, and 2 hanging above from reflective fixtures. I still have two more lightts I can add if I can get a quiet enough fan and some kind of ventilation going on.

Updated pictures will be up shortly.

Hey DCrist721,

I don't post much on here but after reading this thread I thought I'd just comment on the smell. I'm no expert (just a dumb girl) but have been growing Lowryders for a while, I'm growing my tenth crop now. If you manage to get a female then I can assure you that's gonna stink, perhaps not much in the 1st 4/5 weeks but once it starts to flower and produce resin you WILL have a smelly plant on your hands.

Good luck with the grow and I hope you like them as much as I do.
