Just curious how you would go about changing nutrients for a rdwc, general hydroponics site says to change every week and top off with fresh water. So does that mean I empty the whole thing, then add fresh water, then add the nutes??
I use my pump, just have to switch a valve. I have a drain in room, but my ass hauls it 10g at a time to feed ornamentals around the place.
yeah change it out completely... I have a ten site using a 55 gal drum...I turn off my return pump and keep the other pump on get as much as possible into the drum then either switch hoses or what I do is drop a separate pump with hose attached into the drum and pump it out hose leads to my bathroom or kitchen sink easy easy no hauling breaking you back....soak up the rest of your water in your buckets with a towel so you don't have to unplug hoses and dump out each one then wipe down buckets with a presoaked lightly bleach or hydro approved sanitizer ...I probably won't even worry about wiping down my 55 gallon drum those tops don't come off had to cut a hole in it just to get my pump to drop in.
if you have to change out your NS every week then your reservoir is way too small. I usually change out my NS when the plants have taken up about 4 times the volume of the reservoirs. There really is no need to throw away all those nutes every week. I have done autos from start to finish (10 weeks) without changing the nutrient solution at all, not even when changing from veg to flower
monitor EC and PH and top up as needed....why waste the whole lot by discarding. A little bit of chemistry can save a fortune in nutes. "D"
Listen to GG! Nute companies love to tell you to change your res every week. Wha??? You're outta ferts? Come buy more and throw them out in a week...and come buy more... then throw them out= $$$$ in the trash.
