Yellowing lower leaves

  1. Top of the mornin to ya,

I've got a baby growing here from seed in organic soil. She started outdoors but moved indoors at about 1 week. She's 15 days old now and her cotyledetons and first node leaves are yellowing. This is my first grow. Temps at 78-80 degrees, humidity at 60. Looks like getting over shadowed

  2. the cotyledons and first set of true leaves are supposed to do this. no worries.

  3. And just for the sake of me acquiring knowledge, is this because they're no longer necessary and they get drained of their nutrients? And I've heard of cotyl's doing it but why are my first leaves yellowing too?

  4. cotyledons are the first sets of leaves and are actually present in the seed itself.

your first set of true leaves are low on your plant, and were designed to supply the plant with a juvenile amount of carbohydrates by its single blade resulting in a reduced amount of photosynthesis. as the plant matures, it does not have any need for such leaves located so low to the plant (it is in vegetative growth, trying to grow as tall as it can for this stage of life). thus, the plant says its curtains for the first set of true leaves.

some plants decide they need them, others dont. it all depends on your plant's genetics and the environment it faces.
