Photography a hobby that I find comes and goes for me. I have never had any formal lessons (probably apparent, hehe), but have some decent equipment.

Lately, I've had the urge to go out and take more photos. I don't really have any reason to, other than letting people see the world how I see it.

I'm going to use this thread to show you all photos that I have taken during my time in the Navy up to now, and any pictures I take in the future. Any feedback is appreciated, but remember, I'm completely self taught, and totally and amateur at best (So please be kind). Anyhow, let me know what you guys think. :D

I to tend to favor black and white photography, but I don't limit myself to it. If you want to know any more info about any of these pictures, let me know and I'll try to fill you in as best as I can remember. All photos are unedited unless otherwise noted (besides the black and whites, they were all converted from color).

Let's start it off with this:

  2. wow man

some of this is really good, almost professional looking.
you must have a really good camera haha

  3. Thanks Kief!

I sort of got into photography during my second deployment in the Navy. All that tax free combat pay was pretty nice, so I bought a Sony A700 DSLR and about 5 different lenses for it. At the time, all together, it probably cost me about $4,500. I'm sure it's all depreciated in value, but I still get good use out of it. :D

  4. holy shit, yea man haha

im glad you learned how to get some good pics out of the thing at least, for that kind of money.
i hope you have more after this.

  5. love it love it love it

  6. I have tons of pictures, don't worry. My wife is always bugging me to post them either on Facebook or on my DeviantArt account lol.

My biggest problem is I procrastinate. I'm sure I have memory cards laying around that I haven't touched in years that probably have some pretty good photos on them. haha.

  7. Beautiful photos man.

  8. Thank you very much!

I think next up on the agenda will be photos from my trip to Alaska. I'll save that for tomorrow though, for now, it's Walking Dead time!

  9. thanks for the great pics

  10. Gorgeous photography, subbed for future pics :D

  11. I really enjoyed this thank you so much for sharing :)

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I take them all to heart. I've been in the process of trying to organize my picture collection...it's a massive undertaking, hehe. I'm gonna start trickling out some pictures as I go though.

I probably won't label any of them. Feel free to ask questions if you'd like. I'll try to answer them as best as I remember.

  13. What's your favorite subject to shoot?

Good question. I suppose macro. It always fascinated me to capture images of what most people overlook in their day to day lives.

Sometimes though, I'll just grab my camera bag and go for a walk and see what inspiration it gives me.

Here's a small handful of some Cosplay I shot. Not my best work, but it's fun to get out there and try new styles of photography.

    Thank you!

I've been to more places than I can remember really, haha. I was in for ten years and did three deployments in that time. As for the places I've been...let's see what I can remember.

England, France, Italy, Scotland, Seychelles Islands, Dubai, Bahrain, Jordan, Turkey, various places in the US, a few places in Canada, Sicily, Greece, Oman, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Kenya, and probably other places I'm forgetting.

It really depends on what the operational situation is when determining how long we get in port. Some places, like Fleet Week in New York City, you are there for days, just to celebrate (which is amazing!), sometimes you'll end up in a port for only hours or a on the other hand, you could be there a week.

Then you have what are called "liberty hours" while in ports other than your home port. That is the time you are allowed to leave the ship and do whatever you want, as long as it isn't against the fleet rules. It's basically for accountability for the crew. There are some pretty stiff punishments if you don't come back in time or break any of the rules set by the Commanding Officer.

Most days in port, you'll either get to come and go as you please, as long as you don't break curfew and you aren't on duty that day. If it is a "working port visit", that just means you'll do your normal work for the day, then afterwards you can go out and do what you want, again, as long as you're back by curfew. There are some exceptions though, such as: if you get overnight liberty; meaning you just have to come back the next day.

Ok, rambling now...gonna put some more pictures up here. haha.
