Hey guys, harvested my first plant, a Critical Jack auto and now it has little white powdery mildew patches. My own fault as I ignored all the advice I found on GC about drying...lesson learned. I know there's a million and one threads on mold/mildew and a few different things you can do but I can't seem to decide what to do. I will however say one thing I will not do and that is toss the bud! The preferred method I found is Jorge's H2O2 bath, however I am not sure if this is for fresh bud only? My bud has been in jars for approximately two weeks. I'm sure this is fine and have read that it'll mostly affect taste/smoothness but potentcy should be fine. (I'm thinking 220F for about 15-20 mins, same as OldSkoolGrower's guide to increase potency of hash). If I go with this method should I kill the mold now and continue with the cure, or every few days when I open the jar use tweezers to pick off the mildew best I can and then use the oven AFTER the bud is cure? Then obviously there are edibles and hash, which will be the last resort as I'd much rather buds. Help me out guys!
Your weed started to mold and you put it in jars anyways? I'm sure there's nothing you can do since that mold has probably evolved since 2 weeks ago. Your #1 choice is to make iso or bho and then get one of those micron syringe filters I think there's a thread on separating mold particles from bho made with moldy tree
lesson learned i hope, i wouldnt mess with moldy/mildewy herb. respitory infections and "dizzy" smoke. even though we breathe in spores with every breath, a high concentration exposed to flame is gonna be extremely unhealthy. if u put moldy stuff in jars its contaminated the whole crop. spores drop by the million and go everywhere
There's no way I would smoke that bud dude. Your best bet is to try and get whatever hash out of it you can.
those mold spores will survive any way you do it, alcohol doesnt even kill them, let alone some ice water. and the next grows you have will likely have the same problems cuz them spores are all over your grow space, throw the shit out, and bleach your grow room
Even if you manage to kill the mold spores, dead mold is still toxic and can still make you sick. The safest thing you could do IMO would be to make bubble hash, then use that to make edibles. The bubble hash will help separate some of the mold spores, then cooking with and digesting the hash would be safer than smoking it IMO. Mold in the lungs can be really dangerous. But we eat the shit all the time in cheese and fruits etc. You could even make bubble hash, run that through butane, and then cook with it. But I doubt you will go through that much work.
Your telling the OP to ingest mold spores because you think smoking it has risks? I think if there was any harmful way to do it edibles would be it, mold spores can make you very sick to eat. They make special micron filters that are so fine that they only let liquid through, these filters can catch any bacteria or anything as small as bacteria such as mold spores. I think a 0.22- micron filter would be enough to filter the mold spores out, all you would need to do is make bho with it then dissolve in alcohol and attach a 0.22 filter to your syringe after filling the syringe with the viscous alcohol-bho mixture and it should filter the mold spores.
wow! filter out spores? spores are micro scopic they are every where. would you guys eat some moldy food? the only way to kill mold spores and other spores is by heat sterilization. and thats at boiling temperatues for about 90-120 minutes quit being stupid, and throw out the moldy pot people have to evacuate homes because of mold, because it creates an unsafe and potentially dangerous living situation, most of them didnt even know it was there. and you guys wanna eat/smoke the stuff. WTF? sure some foods are made from it but they arent made from mildew, we breathe spores in all the time, but not in concentrated amounts. hope no one has a mold allergy stupidity just might lead to a pot related death here

You realize that there are different types of mold and marijuana normally has white powder, and while its not good for you, it certainly will not kill you, Black mold is the stuff that people have to evacuate their houses for because that stuff can be deadly, but if you turn it to bho, I would imagine the mold spores would be killed by the super heated dab wand as you inhale. But the byproducts of mold spores is not any better for your health than the mold spores themselves, maybe you can try again when it comes to harvest

Last season I had a grow that i fought with PM over! I used Serenade throughout the flower process to fight it off. In the end there was some PM on the buds, not much but some. Since this was my first grow I was REALLY nervous about it! I almost did the Cervantes CO2 bath you posted with the fresh cut pants, but decided not to after talking to the local club. They explained to me that PM is not MOLD, not the stuf that can kill us at least. PM is a problem, and we don't want a lot of it, but we smoke it all the time. When they send bud to be tested at the Lab's for THC, CBD, etc.. they also get tested for molds. If PM is found, the bud is NOT rejected, it is only noted in the reults. Unless it is NASTY, only minor, they still sell it at the club. On my plants, i got off what I could, but there WAS PM on the finished product. I was mostly on the stems, and a little on some under buds, but I survived. I also learned a BIG lesson about ventilation and humidity that have been tackled in my current grow! Good Luck!
I agree that cold water extraction is the best method for saving your medicine,I have just harvested a grow that had me fighting the P.M. for the last couple weeks...neem,pm water,thought I had it beat then it was back again. I was fortunate to have met a brother who is an incredible grower and with 20+ years in the industry he solved it in one evening. GreenCure & 0% milk! Have been harvesting this weekend and will use every bit of my med. Yes I struggled with not drying it all,but,having thought of trashing it all and now being in the position to use it all had me grateful for even the not so sure buds...they get hashed!The rest are drying and I will let ya know how it turns out. ...its not mold,its mildew,there is hope!
Horrible advice... Did you know they use alcohol as a growing medium for mold.. That means not only with the alcohol NOT kill the mold, it will thrive and reproduce, the only way to get rid of the mildew/mold would be dissolve in alcohol and then put it through at least a 3 micron syringe filter, mold particles are only about 3-12 microns, they will be stopped at the filter.
What about water curing? I molded up a jar last month so I took half and put it into a smaller jar filled with filtered water. I change the water every day and will dry it starting monday. The idea is that the mold will be washed out in the process. I dont know how I am going to tell if its clean but I am going to smoke it anyway. Fuck it.
