Chest infection: How do I smoke without papers/bong?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Neurohop, Jan 28, 2013.

  1. Hi aaall.

Over the last week or so, I've come down with a pretty gnarly chest infection. It started out about 8 days ago as a sore throat whilst I was in amsterdam, however it became increasingly worse with the amount of smoking I did while I was out there.

I have since returned to the UK and am now facing the true consequences of my actions: an extremely tickly, phlegmy, chesty cough with an intensely sore throat and general cold-like symptoms. Oh and a blocked ear, but that happens a lot to me...

My partner is desperate to toke up with me, but I really don't want this throat thing to escalate. Typically we smoke solely through joints (being from the UK i typically mix with a bit of tobacco), or from the bong. I have tried on numerous occasions to attempt to make edibles (firecrackers as the staple) but with little avail. I always feel like I've wasted a fair amount of my bud for an unsatisfactory or nonexistent high.. so I'd rather a technique which didn't involve edibles.

I understand that many would view this as a brilliant opportunity for a tolerance break, but I'd rather avoid that at all costs. So my question to you blades is, are there any methods of toking that I haven't considered? As it stands, I'm likely to just pop out and buy a mflb or another suitable vape, would this be advised?

Hope the rest of gc is enjoying their Monday morning. ;)

  2. You don't. Make edibles.

  3. Your insight astounds me.

  4. Not a bad idea, you just need to learn more so your next attempts are more successful.

    I'd go with that.
I'd suggest a better one than an mflb if you're able, it's a rather hot and dry feeling vape by comparison to some others.
Still better than smoking, mind you.
Expect some initial irritation and coughing when going over to vape, especially if you have a chest infection.
It's just the vapour getting into your lungs and loosening all the stuff caught up in there.
Make sure you clean the vape after every use, or you'll potentially reinfect yourself.

  5. Thanks for the coherent response buddy.

I suggested an mflb as I understand they're relatively inexpensive when contrasted with say, a volcano. I've never thrown down the cash for a vape before but the headshop nearby has a good selection. I've also only smoked from larger vapes before whilst abroad, so my knowledge is somewhat limited. I am a tobacco smoker so I suppose the harshness of the mflb may be tolerable? Also, are there any vapes that you would recommend? (Omitting the volcano series, of course!)

  6. You can still get a portable vape, and a lot of people like the mflb.
Arizer makes a portable vapouriser, they make the extreme which is a great home vape.
Might be a bit pricey in comparison though.

I haven't used many portables so I can't really comment based on knowledge outside of the mflb, surely someone can.

I take it you're not smoking cigs right now?
It's your choice and all but it will severely retard your recovery.

  7. Thanks again for the reply bud,

Ill look in to other portables, although to be honest with you, we rarely smoke outside our apartment so on that basis the criterium for the vape to be 'portable' is entirely non essential. I suppose we are just looking for affordability more than anything. I will look into the Arizer extreme now,

Although I smoke tobacco I rarely smoke it by itself. I suppose it's just in our EU culture to mix it into joints. At present I'm not smoking any cigarettes, I couldn't imagine how bad that would make me choke lol. :)

  8. Yeah that's what I meant though, portables are usually cheaper.
The arizer extreme is maybe the best investment I've ever made, will not only give you an equivalent but likely have you smoking less too out of preference.
Though, as you'll have seen by now, while pretty affordable next to the volcano it's not one of the cheaper vapes.

You could always try equivalent smoking mixes?
If you're so inclined at all.

    Good call ;)

  9. Yeah, it's a good £200 for the Arizer extreme q from my local headshop, so I think I'll have to out the idea of buying that on the backburner for the time being I think, haha. I think perhaps i may consult the staff at the shop for a recommendation in the meantime.

With regards to alternative smoking mixtures, 'dam is pretty rife with them now and i have tried just a few. Coffeeshops such as Babas are big on encouraging tobacco alternatives by laying out huge mason jars filled with herbal mixture for you to use in place of tobacco. A branded mixture called Greebo was another i tried during my stay, and I must admit that although workable, for me, nothing quite delivers a toke like a jay infused with tobacco... Again, this is just my preference as a European so adon't hate me!

Thanks for all the tips bud, am going to head out now to see what the shop says.

    Peace. :)

  10. Just seen this while looking for the price of Extreme Qs on Amazon (£150, but definitely worth it), when I came across this...
Da Kube Portable Pocket Sized Vaporizer - Battery: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
Looks like a complete rip off of an MFLB, but for half the price!
From my experience of MFLBs, they're not bad, but it's much better to have a desktop for at home if you're a heavy user. I wouldn't spend £80 on one either, which is why I just toke bowls when I'm out and about, but I'll certainly be testing one of those Kubes.:smoke:

  11. get a vape! You might not smoke at all afterward :)

  12. I think natural progression is pushing me that way! Shame I have to throw down a couple of hund-y on it though, eh? :p

Thanks for doing a little digging for me pal. The listed price for the Extreme Q on Amazon is a good £50 or so cheaper than my local headshop, so I may just have to go ahead with one of those.

As for the MFLB-looking thing, it seems to be an aesthetically identical match but the reviews seem mixed. Regardless of this, I'll still opt for a desktop vape, I suppose for now I don't have much need for portability.

    .......

  15. Screw portable vapes bro. They don't keep consistent heat and must constantly reheat you should be able to get a vapor bros vape for around 100-120. Plugins>portable

Sure, get a vape, they are great.

But I still wouldn't even want vapor going into my lungs if it's infected. I bet it hurts like hell breathing, now inhaling something would suck.

Edibles is where its at man. Become a firecracker master chef.

Dn't smoke/vape until you are just as new :smoke:

    Good luck man!

  17. never had an edible do much besides cheba chew quad strengths. Those are spendy. I like a foggy high like from 2-4 dabs when u wake up

  18. As freakin' awesome as this sounds, I don't have access to BHOs/oils and the lark. Perhaps one day though :smoke:

The vapor brothers vapes are really beautiful for the price bro, thanks for the heads up!

    ^^^^^ THIS.

I've pretty much spent my entire afternoon attempting firecrackers. I'm making batch number three as I type this, hopefully third times the charm!
