Post those SCROG screens

Discussion in 'Plant Training' started by uneek, Jan 23, 2013.

  1. I want to make one and try it out, but are you strapping chicken wire down to board? do you make your own? i read the SCROG method, but no photos or nothing nor a how to on making one. Any advice would help. I know how it's done and suppose to look, but am confused on the construction part. Like are you using Ihooks? and running string threw it? or like i asked before the chicken wire, do you strap it down? staple it, use zip ties? sorry i took a dab just before asking :smoking: Thanks in advance.

Those mod scrogs were from my first grow a couple years back, don't hate on the ugly plants!. They are nice for mobility but I really don't use them anymore. As you can see you can use wood, or pvc, or w/e to construct the base. I used the same 2x2 screen for the scrog, bought it @ home depot, I think it is used for drywalling. Staples on the wood, zip ties on the pvc.

I've been wanting to share my Modular-Earth-Bucket-Scrog for a while. My screen wires are insulated, rigid, copper pieces about the thickness of a coat hanger. They're mounted parallel with each other, not in a woven grid like most scrogs. They can be easily slid out of their individual holes in the frame come harvest time. I can cut the whole plant down, and remove it from the scrog frame without disturbing a single bud. My scrog frame can be raised or lowered (or removed) using thumb-screws located on the bucket. Everything's recycled/DIY down to my potting soil, the recipe coming (mostly) from the grasscity Organic Growing forums.
    Thanks for the interest.

6 plants probably shoulda used 4

    6' x 4' screen

    2000w

i use 2"x2" poultry netting and PVC for the frame and zip ties to secure the net to the frame.. but there's a million ways you can do it.

  7. thanks a lot for the input gave me a great idea to go with thanks so much. Happy growing!

  8. im going to try the Modular scrog with pvc cause i think it'll be easier to work with?

  9. I would be careful with any type of wire mesh, especially chicken wire. Its highly possible the buds will get trapped in the wire and you will have to spend a fair amount of time cutting them out. Chicken wire also tends to have a lot of sharp ends that will cut/scratch the hell out of you.

    My suggestion:
Make a frame out of 2x2 or PVC and use stainless steel eye screws 2 inches apart. Thread ONE nylon mason line for all the horizontal hooks and make it taught. Weave ONE nylon mason line for all the vertical hooks and you're good to go. Once its time to harvest, you just make 2 cuts and you are free of the screen.

  10. ^^

yeah i'm not a fan of metal screen either.. nylon is cool because it gives a little more play and it's easier to tuck things under without fear of snapping branches.

  11. if you check out my rainforest 66 tent grow in the aeroponics section you can see my screen. I used 3/4 inch pvc pipe for the frame and then used cheap string for the runners come harvest time i can just cut the strings

  12. I believe chicken wire is thinner than what I use for my screen as I have never cut any branches on it. Having to re-string your scrog every harvest sounds like a pain to me, but to each their own.

  13. Yeah I wasnt really referring to your setup, its more of a rebar than a mesh. Restringing is pretty simple if you just do it with two long strings, its like stringing up a pair of shoes every 2-3 months.

  14. Hi guys i just dropped my screen and made a nice added feature i made it moveable by useing rachet hangers for a light, it moves awesome and does a great job i will try to get some pics next couple of days works great .

  15. Some good looking screens lads!

Im hopefully gunna be putting a screen together over the weekend, one question though, how high should the screen be above the pots? 12" sound right, or should it be higher?

  16. ^^

to each their own on that.. personally i like the screen high so i can get down and water things and trim/pull dead leaves etc..

12" would be the absolute minimum in my experience,.

  17. I just hung my screen last night and it is about 12 inches off and that is the minimum I would go with watering and trimming under the canopy .

  18. Where did you get this diagram? What are the little pipe/valves with the flags on top?

  19. Yeah, I was wondering if it'd be easier to put it a little higher than 12" for easier watering.

  20. For my back two i took 3/4 inch clear plastic tube ran it down the frame of my tent the onto my soil plugged the end and drilled small holes in the tube allt he way arond my stem. Then i take a funnel with a valve on end and put it on the hose put in my water and slowly open valve on funnel works awesome and no reaching in under for back two.
