I Just bought a 400hps light with ballast.

I am deciding to buy a metal halide bulb for my vegging.

My question is, can I just buy a 400mh bulb to use with the hps ballast?

Also, if i'm growing a sog in my 100×100×1.8 tent, would 9 plants be okay with the 400watt hps?

Thx.

Use the 400w Mh ONLY if you have a DIGITAL BALLAST, as they go both Mh and HPS, don't try this otherwize.

1.0m x 1.0m x 1.8m = Yes better with 600w but will do 9 plants well, use a fan and a vent

Okay. Thank you both for the reply.

From looking back on my order I don't think I have digital ballast.

So I would to save some money without having to buy a new ballast, i'll have to invest in an conversion bulb.

One question... What the heck is a conversion bulb?

I've heard using hps for both cycles is okay also.

However, since it's my first ever grow, I thought I'd go set up the way i've researched to experiment how it should be properly done.

Again thx for all the help.

I have a 400w HPS ballast running a 400w MH bulb..over a year now with no problems. You cannot run an HPS bulb in a MH ballast though.
