So I don't have any cool videos right now, but some of the lil things that can be interesting.. First is a slug, just plain ol' slug. Watching how his eyes work is pretty crazy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQa032DN0ys Here's some slugs, snails, a wolf spider, and other various bugs hanging out on my compost. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2UEzwz4i60 And this guy is a mole cricket. I actually made this earlier today, but I would like to capture him so I can get some close ups and then put him back. They're pretty neat, like a mix between a cockroach and a cricket. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPfNnPHciNA I was asked why I haven't been making any videos lately. I moved to VA Beach so been a little busy. And most of the ones I've made turned out kind of boring as we can see.. And my fucking phone did some kind of system/camera upgrade and now my close ups look shitty compared to before. Even if I set it to the new macro setting, it sucks. But next spring/summer I'll hopefully be making some better quality, lil more informative videos. It's October and I still find these tree frogs that actually live under my grass. I missed the season, but soon enough there will be geckos and skinks and all kind of cool things out..
So I caught the mole cricket. I was going to have a video handling it to try and see all sides, but the damn thing has some power.. It was trying to dig in between my fingers and forced it's way out. So I dropped it quick into the cup and started recording. If I can come up with a way to keep him comfortably, I just might hold on to him for a bit.. Maybe come up with something with a section like an ant farm where you can see the tunnels. Interesting if it's a male because I read they shape their holes like mega phones to amplify their calls. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6Bd_g7KAsE
i like watching things in nature doing their thing, even more so in real life in their natural environment, especially when im super baked, so +rep to you good sir for sharing
I think a lot of kids have done and will always continue to do fucked up things to bugs, including myself. It's all part of the learning experience.. I recorded a couple of ghost crabs on the beach at night. They're not really bugs, but close enough of a relative. These things are kind of neat though. I like their pattern, and the orange spots. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0ia9oqoTMw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWX8dTtlg_U They're probably pissed bout getting blasted with light..
I was kind to pretty much all things in general, except ants. They got slaughtered all throughout my childhood, mostly due my early age of exposure to fireworks. I leave them alone now though, they're like little builders
I think interest and intelligence are pretty relatable, and judging by your response to the 'Where do black holes lead?', it's no wonder you have very little interest..
Semi related video. Would be interesting to see how many blades are open to the idea of adding insects to their diet. Marcel Dicke: Why not eat insects? | Video on TED.com
Definitely interested. When it warms up, I'll be able to get a ton of grasshoppers in a day. Like a month ago I was riding the bike path and saw hundreds of dead ones and I thought "I'm going to eat these fuckers", but not dead ones smashed on the path..
^i wouldnt on a daily basis... yet anyway, positions are everchanging lol if i'd of looked at myself two years ago id say i'd gone from stoner to straight up hippie lol but its great knowledge, particularly if you're broke or in survival mode, acorn grubs btw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv96pGWoyHM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mwgg81PT0fQ Freeing up some space..
I've always wished that i was more comfortable around creepy crawlies...or anything not human/covered in fur really. And even some of the furred creatures are pretty weird. Theyre so interesting but so gross. I make my gf whos only slightly less terrified kill spiders and shit lol
Lol, no need to fret really. There a lot of programming in us with things like that.. Predisposed fears built in for general safety of us mere humans. Snakes and spiders are the most notable, but could of just been exposed improperly growing up. It's a good thing you don't know me in person cause when I find out someone is scared of something, I typically expose them to it again and again.. and again. If it's a straight up panic attack phobia though, I won't. It's like how can you not be amazed by insects? I know you got to have a stash of videos.. feel free to post em if you do.
I've only got a few videos, unfortunately.. I have to use my HUE to take good macro video, but it has problems that ruin the quality.. it's good for taking macro photos, however. I dont understand how my phones take such great macros, yet cannot take macro video. very strange.. The only app i can find that enables macro video on my phone is a piece of shit adware app called zoomcamera.. nearly all of my videos are of my jumping spiders, but i DO have one of a california ebony tarantula being fed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mtf4Heaske8
