Is a reflective grow room really mandatory?

I cornered off a section of basement (6'x6') with a sheet

I dont have any reflecting anything going on. The walls are wood framed with some sheetrock.

i have two pots on the floor with some lights....

is it really smart to have an actual "BOX"

also i dont have any carbon filters or anything because i could care less about smell

No but it helps. Your going to lose some light outwards but if your growing with CFLs probably does'nt matter much they do not give off a whole lot of grow spectrum far. If your using anything other then a CFL I would def add something reflective.

Flat white paint works great. Its cheap.

Is it really "smart" to have a box. Yes it keeps things contained and you have rails on the top to hang stuff and rails on the side to attach things. Makes it easy. It also focus's all of the light on the plant none is wasted. You can reflect back 10-15% of the light back to the plant with reflective surfaces

Do you need one no not at all just makes it all easier imo. If I was to use a basement dont have one then I would not but Id build a grow room down there.

Jorge Cervantes DVD grow series which happens to be on youtube has a good demo of building a room inside a room. Easy fast.

Ice: you might want to consider a couple of things. You could enclose the wall with dry wall and put a reflective surface on it like: bright white enamel paint, the shiny side of aluminum foil like we used to do or Mylar like a lot of people still do. The down side to that is that if it's only on one wall the reflector hood on your light is probably going to do as much good.

If you confine your grow to an enclosed space you also create additional problems like ventilation, temperature and excess humidity. the more I think about it, it looks like you have an ideal situation in the basement.

As far a caring about the smell, that's fine but how about nosy neighbors or cops? Who goes down there? If it's pretty much sealed off from the rest of the house the problem may be moot. You might want to take a look at Cervantes's book. he deals a lot with the growing environment. I hope that helps. Hank

Your plant seems to be changing fast. YOu should sit down and think about what you want out of it and plan for that.

I did....last night lol...for like 3 hours

I figured with the setup that i just described....
I can grow up to 4 autoflowers or 2-3 regular femmed plants.

I wont have to worry about heat too much from the light because of the filter.....and ill have fans in there too

and the main reason for the box is so that I can maximize reflection

Ice: for what you'll have to spend for building materials enclosing it you can buy a decent tent. You'll still have better air circulation if you just leave it alone. Hank
