All The Best Opinions On Curing For taste.

  1. if you want to "flavor" your bud just use your desired flavor in the curing jars. post harvest is the only time to impart a flavor on bud and also much easier as you can flavor each jar to different tastes. i was never one for flavored anything, but i have tried some my buddy tried with citrus rind in the curing jar and it definitely had a citrus presence to it.

i was thinking maybe hot babe panty flavor for a batch?  have to use a thong in the jar though, no room for hip huggers.

  2. I realize that this post is almost three years old, and I'm only half way through the entire thread, but...

Cigar humidors and any other type of cedar box that you will be storing smokables in, needs to be seasoned before you store anything in them. In other words, the box needs to be brought up to the proper RH before it can maintain that same RH. A good way to season the box is to start by moistening the interior wood with a paper towel dampened with distilled water. Do this a couple times. After this, grab a glass that is small enough to fit inside the box with the lid closed. Fill the glass with distilled water and nuke til boiling. Put the glass in and close the lid and let the steam work it's magic. Test the box periodically with a hygrometer and once it's at the RH that you want, it's safe to store your smokey treats. Good luck.

  3. Miss you Mrs. Skunk P.

Hope I hope your alive and thriving!! [IMG]

  4. Bump...thanks for the link Tree dogg! I'll be trying this out next harvest.

    Thank you SkunkP! Great thread!

  5. I was really hoping someone would answer this that has tried it . Ive been thinking of using this, seems more like a natural cure, I am in an area where I can have RH in the 50-70% range if I leave it in the area it was grown .

Dumb luck if you ask me.. I've ruined enough good smoke to know what NOT to do..
Dry and cure is all wrapped up in your local condition to such a huge extent no one style will do for so many temps and humidity extremes.. I'll drop mine and you can pick and choose any bits that might seem useful to your zone..

____https://www.icmag.co...013#post3112013<a class='bbc_url' href='https://www.icmag.co...013#post3112013'> Lots of good information on this thread..
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
By the time I found this thread I'd worked a lot of this out on my own but this is still my send them to thread for new growers for drycure help.. While it's is a good method and gets the job done it has some drawbacks.. When you start working with larger amounts says 2 or 3 outdoor plants all them jars gets real clumsy..

My grow is So Calif and between the temps and the very low humidity it's very easy to over dry.. Even a single day to long on the line can ruin it all..
To keep the wife happy all my work is restricted to the garage so I get to be inventive at times.. If you search long enough you'll come across the 777 of curing .. This being the 7 days @ 70 degrees @ 70% humidity.. Works well if you have a temp and humidity controlled room.. We don't so we use jars to achieve the same ends..

While I started in jars this soon proved impractical trying to unscrew all the jars over and over.. Some trial and error later I worked out a method to limit exposure to our stone dry air and still get things done in a timely way..

I take the plant a branch at a time and trim close while seconds off the living plant.. All the leafs are standing tall and you don't get a better shot at trimming.. Hang..

Depending on temp and humidity this stage can take from 24 hours to a week.. just hung bud is dead limp to the touch after 12 hours or so.... When the buds start to stiffen when slightly compressed I remove from the branches..

And the buds get placed in cut down paper shopping bags about 3 inches tall..

Next I place the bags in a air snug-tight container.. Mostly I use either an Ice Chest or a New unused Trash Can.. I try and size the container to the load.. You don't want 1 bag of buds in a trash can..
While I did use several hygrometers early on for this stage I've since found I can do it all just by feel now.. Leave bags in can till limp to the touch again.. This first day that won't take very long. a couple of hours... Once limp remove from container and set bags out till stiff when compressed slightly.. I'll flip the contents of the bags to a third bag to get the lowest buds up on top.. I'll continue this rotation of the bags into and out of the container gradually spending less and less time exposed.. the last few days the bags will only be out an hour or so.. This takes me about 7 days..
This is where I do use the Hygrometers.. The can is now acting like a large jar.. Your best readings come in the morning after the can has had 12 hours or more to stabilize and will tell you how much exposure your product will need that day.. Combined with a hygrometer telling me what is outside helps..

A full can requiring a single meter as well as being able to get the product in and out rapidly made this a much more practical way at least in the extremely dry SW USA..

Once the can-chest has reached 65% and 7 to 10 days have elapsed It gets jarred in Half Gallon mason jars with a 62% Boveda 60 gram and I'm done.. 60 days minimum cure time for me.. Longer is better but you'll have a very respectable smoke in 2 months..

Caution this may get you a large container of mold in a less dry area.. Just what I've worked out in my smoking hot and extremely dry garage..
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I shamelessly copy my own work here... Ask on this Subject all you want as it's my pet peeve
That whole first week or two is a squeeze the Charmin kind of thing..
Edit:: If anything I've slowed this even more in the early stages.. Getting it off the line and in the bags soon enough insures the small stuff doesn't over dry bringing harshness to the overall plant..
You really have to control the speed at which it dries
Drying weed is like cooking meat.. You don't get a second chance.. To done = To dry is just that and you can't undo it.. Below 55 % all curing stops and your stuck..

  8. Just read through this thread I have my first harvest ever either tonight or tomorrow, is the general consensus thats its still better to hang plant whole for first couple and then take fans as they dry out? Or is there better way?

Also, do you guys take individual branches off the atem whole or cut the stem near the dirt and hang the entire plant stem and all?

  9. It depends on space. If I can I like to hang the plant whole, but these days I have to break them down in 4' sections. Removing leaves is a gut call, if the plant is really dense I remove for air flow. Otherwise I like them leaves drying down and protecting those precious trichomes. Once crispy they are easy to remove.

Good luck. Curing is just as much of science and art as growing.

  10. Thanks for the reply, ill play it by feel i should have room to hang them whole if not i may need to take one down to the branches. Im nervous/excited dont want to screw up now and end up with sh*t tasting bud

  11. So i hung them whole, my only concern is that I LST'd should i figure a way to add more space between the buds? They are not overly cramped

  12. make sure the buds dont touch each other.

  13. You just want to make sure there is air flow between the buds. No clumping or stagnant areas.
