Ok so I've been 18 for several months now and I enjoy smoking weed very much. Unfortunately my parents are everything marijuana related but I feel that now that I'm an adult they really can't control that part of my life. My dad threatened to cut off all financial support (college tuition, debt payments, bills, etc.) if he ever catches me smoking but I really wanna tell him eventually. Need help what do you guys think?

Why do you HAVE to tell them? Your parents don't need and probably don't want to know about every aspect of your life. I'm doubting you'll be smoking around them anyway even if they know. Do you know everything that they do? Just be an adult, you don't need permission. Seems like telling them would only cause problems. Why do so many people on here have to tell their parents?

My mom has been there done that so she's a lot more understanding. But telling them probably isn't the right idea but in case they ever caught me or found out someway

Hell, I'm in my late thirties and don't tell my parents. My mother gets nervous about stuff anyway and it could cause her some anxiety. Why put her through that. I hide it from the kids so they don't flap their gums to the dare officer at school. That is my bigger worry.

"My dad threatened to make my life financial hell if he catches me smoking. Should I tell him?"
Jesus. Kids these days....keep your shit on the down low. It's like this. Your dad didn't call your grandpa when he turned 18 (drinking age then, depending on your parents age) and went "hey dad, can I have a beer?" Because he didn't need permission. If you need permission to get high, here it is bro. Go for it.

If they are paying for everything and giving you a place to live so yes they still do control that part of your life if you still want the easy funding. So just be careful and don't tell them yet

If you are going to choose not to tell them, Make sure you DO NOT get caught. Your parents would rather you tell them you smoke rather them catching you. At least mine were. Theres a trust barrier lost when you lie to your parents like that.

If you know they're against it, don't tell them. Generally it's very hard to change an older persons opinion on weed.
The only reason I told my parents is cause I knew my dad smoked, even though my mom is completely against weed.

If they are really against it I would not tell them! It's really bothers me that parents are still uptight about their kids smoking pot. Parents should be thankful if thats all their kids are doing, espcially these days...
