I am currently on my first grow with Purple Kush bagseed. My plant is in almost 2 months of Veg under CFL 2 or 3 26W 6400K and 1x 42W 2700k. I'm growing in a 10'' pot with MG soil (with slow release .14-.14-.14  ).

So I'm having browning and leaf curling, but monly the lower large fan leaves seem to have brown spots, and higher/smaller leaves are curling lengthwise.

My temps are in the 78-82*F ranger on the cold days. but we had 2-3 days of hot weather and the temps were around 82-87*F. BUT the curling started showing before the heatwave...

Sorry for the crappy BB pictures

first 2 show curling, next 2 shows brwoning and the last 2 looks like it got eaten up by a bug....

Thanks! it does look alot like a start of Mg deficiency. Is it possible that Mg gets locked out due to PH problems? I watered about a week ago with 1 tsp/gal of Blackstrap Molasses which contains some Mg. But because I have slow release ferts in the soil I have a feeling that PH is not right...

This leads me to believe your using some variation of miracle grow.. not good. as you said they are slow release.. even with a flush they are still there..

Your never gunna know how much of what if left! Repot into a bigger pot and use better soil and YOU feed your plants.

Yeah I have crappy Miracle Gro potting soil... (BAD CHOICE!!!)

I do not PH my water, I use tap water, which I let sit overnight to have the chlorine evaporate. But I think I'll start using bottled water ( not sure if it will be better).

And I will definately get a cheap PH tester, for aquariums or just a simple pen style tester to at least get a general idea.

Temps were steady at 78-82*F when it started curling.

also looking in buying the General Hydroponics Go Box. Around 50$ and will have pretty much everything I need for a complete grow. I do have a bag of Pro-mix (with Mycorize) laying around... but I'm afraid to transplant it and damage the roots ( I have already accidently topped it with a string during LST session...)

So, I just bought an aquarium PH tester with little drops.

And my Tap water is at 7.6 I will leave a glass of water on the counter a couple of hours to see if it changes due to chlorine evaporation, but I doubt it will change much.

Next time I water I will test my runoff water! too bad I just watered this morning lol

Would there be another way of testing my soil other than runoff water? (other than buy expansive testers of course)

That is heat stress not magnesium deficiency. That’s OK adding Epsom salt won't hurt. Certainly lower the temps. Its too hot!!

my temps have been consistent in the 75-82*F at canopy level... so I shouldn't have any temps problems...

my strain is Purple Kush... would they be known for low heat resistance? also I am gettinh alot of red stems, is that a problem or only the strain? It can go as low as 68*F at night in my room. And I know that the purples tend to get more color when in lower temps...

from the sick plant link int eh first posts : <<Red petioles and stems are a normal, genetic characteristic for many varieties, plus it can also be a co-symptom of N, K, and Mg-deficiencies,>>

So, curling and twisty leaves, slight burns and red stems... pretty much points me to Mg def. will definitely get some CalMag or epsom salt this week!

Yeah I was only able to check the PH of my tap water (7.6)... I wanted to check run off yesterday but since it came out a bit brownish, I couldn't really test it with a color changin PH kit....

but I ordered the Go Box from general Hydroponics and Smart pots. So I will transplant this week using good Pro-Mix WITHOUT fertz! :)

bump up your humidity by either placing boiling water in a corner of your room start foilage spraying your plant like every 2nd day with just water to help with humidity lights out
It does appear that your soil may be relasing to much nutrients/ or plant is even more hungry try bottom feeding plant meaning place pot in a bowl of water ,
water less by flooding your soil it relases more nurtients so less is better

How will the humidity help my plant? will it just help reduce the intake of water by the roots so by consequence reduce the fertz intake?

Thanks for the tips!! I have been watering until I see about 5-10% of runoff. (basically 1/2 gallon in my 3 gal pot)
