Hey GC. Just wondering if some of you reggae guys could help point me in the right direction here. I'm looking for a specific genre/style of reggae and I'm having a tough time finding bands that fit the bill.
I like the sound of slower groove reggae. Gentle soothing reassuring type reggae. Not the political/fast paced/impossible to understand for a white guy from the sticks, reggae.
When I "relax" I'd like to put on something that sounds VERY mellow and laid back but still has that "raggae sound".
Anyway, I've come across some stuff by stick figure, UB40 and obviously good ol Bob Marley that I quite like but am looking for your easy going reggae recommendations.
And to the reggae purists that read this, please don't hate on me.
Thanks and happy groovin all:o

Reggae is generally slower music. Roots reggae, and other types of "roots" Jamaican music, features political lyrics. Dancehall and ragga are faster paced sub-genres of reggae, generally reggae is not fast paced. As for understanding the lyrics, my advice for any type of music is don't make that the top priority. You'll miss out on a lot of music from people who don't speak your language (or speak it in a way that's unintelligible to you).
Here's my reggae station on Pandora (http://www.pandora.c...338351379896326). It's a mix of ska, reggae, dancehall, dub, ragga, lovers rock, etc. It might help you find some of the reggae artists you enjoy.
