So this argument has come up a lot in my life and I was wondering what you blades think.

IMHO I think it is dead and it died somewhere in 1983-1984.
Nowadays kids are getting high five for wearing a leather jacket with custom paint, patches, studs, having blue hair or a mohawk, etc, but back in the day you would get in fights/beat up because of the way you looked. If someone saw you walking down the street looking like you did they would think it is taboo.
It just doesn't mean anything like it did some 30 years ago.

I also think the "punk" bands of today are all about the money.
I mean look at "The Casualties" they obviously care about their image more then the music itself.

But the thing that really grinds my gears is the whole "anarchy" mentality. I mean if the world would truly be in anarchy the "punks" would be the first ones dead.

Not dead what-so-ever. Just not nearly as trendy as it once was.

meh i dont think it matters, like what you like fuck everyone else, it is hard to find decent punk bands these days but their plenty of decent ones still to listen to but i do see what ya mean! it really annoys me that everyday chumps are trying to sport mohawks to make themselves look hard or whatvere reason they do it for and they listen to dance music and pop, they can suck my balls

haha. Are you aware of the ridiculous amount of bands still touring the country or at least parts of it, hardly making enough to pay for gas every day? And to play in front of barely 50 people a night no less, most of whom know all the words to their songs. If that isn't punk, I don't know what is.

I was referring to the "punk" scene....

Punk isn't fashion, it's a mentality. To always question authority and become an individual. A person can wear baggy pants and a plain shirt and still be punk. As long as there is main stream culture there will always be punks to deny it.

I certainly wouldn't say it's dead. It's more accurate to say it's dropped back down out of view though, and isn't that the way it should be? Let me put it this way, the Bad Brains show I saw a few months ago told me all I need to know that punk is still a-kickin'.

but doesn't it still pertain to a certain genre of music or whatever...i mean what you said could describe underground music in general, and that can't be all considered "punk"...

I love psychedelic music more than punk, but thats what i love about the 60's it created more genres than any other period of time ever. True fact, you learn something everyday.

edit: What i said is actually true, all the combinations of all the drugs and creativity and free thinking and just all of the consciousness expansion created more genres in just a few short years than has ever been created ever.

The music came from the movement. Music is a way to express your views and opinions, You can't have the music before the idea, it has to be the idea then the music.
