Sam Vimes, and the Nightwatch were my favorite part of disk world. I think one of the best scenes in the books was in Thud! when Sam snaps after the assassin tries to kill his family, and smashes his way through the deep downer stronghold shouting lines from "Where's my cow". (a children's book by Pratchett)

"...IS THAT MY COW? IT GOES, 'MOOOOO!'..." (all while smashing dwarves)

Also, I'm a HUGE Lovecraft fan, and the books involving the wizards and the invasion from the Dungeon Dimension made the baddies have a mythos flavor.
