How to smoke properly from a small metal pipe without a 'carb' hole? *honest noob ask

    Hey guys, this is Elm from Brazil! I've been smoking joints for 6 months now and i've decided to up my game and bought myself a cheap metal pipe like the one on this picture below

    When i bought it,i had no idea of the buckload of variants of existing pipes, with or without holes and whatnot, i just bought this one because it was the cheapest i could find to get me started on pipe smoking.

    My experience feels less than ideal to me because i don't know if i'm doing it right. I'm getting the 'kicks' but anyway i feel i'm using it in a wasteful way... so i thought i could come and ask some questions ^^

    This is how i'm using it today:

    - Pack bowl with weed *until it is topped*, push it a little in so it evens on the bowl surface nicely

    - Put pipe on mouth, holding with left hand, but the pipe isn't near my mouth (letting some air in). it is on my mouth vacuumed and i just use the hand for support.

    - Tilt it some 30 or so degrees to the right

    - With my right hand i light the lighter and approach it to the bowl

    - Start sucking, fire is drawed into the bowl, through the weed but only thru its center.

    These are the concerns that i'm having:

    - Weed gets burned throughout the bowl until the 'down hole' but only in the center...when this part gets burned the hits become harsh and i feel i'm reburning through ASHES... weed on corners gets all mixed up with ashes...

    - ASHES everywhere inside the bowl, and it's mixed with the weed that's still in the bowl, on the corners.How do i take those off or do they need to be taken off to keep smoking? Are they dangerous? (I feel like the fire is hitting only the ashes...)

    - The bowl IS small, but it gets over SO quickly, i might be doing something wrong.

    - I always have to keep feeding fire to it. is it the right way or am i just burning ganja away? ^^

    I don't know if i'm embarassing myself asking these kind of questions. I just wanna improve my methods (no one to teach me!) and i expect humbly some honest answers.

    Stick to joints until you can afford a decent piece.

    These things are awful in my experience, the bowls are tiny, the pipe is tiny which makes the smoke extremely hot, glass is hundreds of times better.

    I used to own one of those till it got confiscated by the cops. Buy yourself a pipe screen so no ash in mouth

    Ashes aren't harmful. Here's a useful tip to know when it's done, if its ashes are black = hit grey = dump. Also, I think you should invest in a screen. They are 1 USD for like 5.


    p.s. As it so happens pipes are less wasteful then joints.

    lol my first piece was one of these. i ended up throwing it away when i discovered glass.

    metal pipes can also give off some pretty nasty stuff when heated up. unless the metal has been purified like my fumo, expect to be inhaling noxious gas every time your pipe gets hot.

    So can't keep the weed hot by heating the lower part of the 'bowl'. Good thing i haven't done it. It's anodized metal and feels sturdy and safe, but you got me scared now... lmao!

    Should i ditch this pipe? Also, can i smoke weed using this one?!

    Yea you can but just get a glass pipe bro. There is plenty of cheap glass out there that's better than metal or wood.

    These wooden pipes are really cheap here (2USD), the only thing that concerns me is that they are DEEP.... if i top all that with weed and smoke, i'll get to cloudnine in no fscking time! lmao!

    Putting just a bit, will the flame reach the hempa?

    ps: i use bought weed, cant plant :( so yeah, the dried, mishmashed, ugly stuff... at least i know it's good and not diced (nice smell)

    I had a pipe just like this, and you don't have to start from lowest grade pipes and go up up up. If you have the money, go all in! About the burning; when you see the flame crawl into the bowl, move the flame in a circle or 2 around the whole bowl and once you see basically the whole bowl being burnt then stop lighting. The oxygen flowing through the bowl fuels the fire, so you dont need to hold the lighter there. That might solve the weed wasting problem. Cheers! :smoke:

    If you want to smoke out of a non-glass pipe I'd suggest getting some cleaning equipment. When (Yes, when) you get a glass pipe, you can easily clean it with some salt and isopropanol (Cleaning alcohol).

    Your prob not doing anything wrong man that pipe was my first pipe ever too. Get a glass one and youll be a lot happier though.

    i personally have no problem with wood, as long as its a hard wood. my first pipe was chiseled out of a block of wood and sanded, and it was an awesome pipe! just needed a screen and it was good to go. you can clean wood pipes with iso, i dont suggest boiling any pipes. smells terrible and it gunks up pan... just be sure to rinse it under water and then dry, i used a hair dryer to speed up the process. also, if you need to know if the wood is good for a pipe, make it and if it can handle a simple test, you're all set. "stop, drop, and throw" if it passes, the pipe will last a lifetime.

    Find a nice glass spoon on the grasscity online shop man, you won't be disappointed :)

    Once you go glass, you never go brass.

    Just use sticky weed and maintain a good cherry on it. Take hits until it is gone by just puffing along, like you would if you smoked pipe tobacco. At least that's how I smoke with metal pipes and it seems to work great.

    I think those metal pipes are truly designed for hash smoking. The head shops in Bellingham all labeled them as hash/kief pipes. Sometimes one-hitters. Because there is no carb, I would assume it is ideal as a one hitter.
