CHICAGO DECRIMINALIZES SMALL AMOUNTS OF MARIJUANA | The Chicago City Council has voted 43-2 to “decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana.” The city will now “issue a ticket for possession of 15 grams of marijuana or less,” but arrests “would still be mandated for anyone caught smoking pot in public or possessing marijuana in or near a school or in or near a park.” Chicago joins a number of states and cities who are considering similar decriminalization legislation. 15 states and a number of cities have reduced the penalty for possession of small amounts of marijuana, including: Seattle, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, as well as university towns like Champaign, Illinois, and Madison, Wisconsin.

Did NY do this yet?
I know the governor was trying to push decriminalization forward to combat the unfair convictions from the "stop and frisk" program.

This is a great step forward.
You guys are catching up to us now, only we can have up to an oz and only receive a fine.
Also does this mean that if you have over 15grams it is a felony? As in canada its only a felony if you have over 3kilos or 5 plants (i think, dont quote me on that)

They also need to soften penalties for selling small amounts.
Won't they give harsh penalties to anyone caught selling small amounts in these so-called decriminalized areas?

If they suspect you selling the fine doesn't count, you're headed to jail.
They're doing this to focus less on users and more on dealers.

But it's seems silly to acknowledge the user is doing little wrong and putting all the guilt on the dealer who is simply selling the harmless substance.

What a waste.
It's like destroying food, money, medicine, industrial goods, and self-knowledge all at once.
