So just recently after saving for a long time I finally gained enough money to buy a new microphone. I have had a Shure P57 (or something like that) for a year now. It's a dynamic mic which was good for singing/guitar but because I've always enjoyed rapping more than singing (and have way more rap songs recorded) I am wondering what sort of microphone to get?

I want really professional quality for when I self-release a mixtape

looking to spend in the 300-500 dollar range

condenser mic, other than that its really up to your choice of what brand you want...

i personally use a AT 3060 Tube Condenser ($399), i love it...you'll need more than just a mic though, with condenser mics you have to have 48v of phantom power through some kinda of input (mixer, mbox etc)

Are you mixing your mixtape by yourself, or are you sending it out?

IMO, you can't get a sound you're hearing in your head for cheap because it's not just the microphone but the preamp, the compression used during tracking mixing and mastering, etc. but you can get good quality with doing things right with really cheap stuff, so TBH I would just go grab a mic for a few hundred and then maybe a little channel strip or preamp by itself or a good interface that has a good vocal preamp if you don't already, I wouldn't get one of those chinese condensers or any condenser too cheap many sound very brittle, look around see what you can find I'm assuming you want something that's sort of bright and is going to capture your whole voice with warmth,

I do all my stuff with a dynamic e935 and an ART pro channel and I get a sound I'm satisfied with but it isn't that warm bright sound, a condenser that isn't brittle is probably best for what many (rap) seem to want,

PS A really good compressor on mix or master can go a LONG way

I bought at AKG C 214 for 300 and I fuckin love the thing. I'd recommend that for all recording purposes.

My work is in my sig, I'm not the most talented guy around but I practice rapping, writing, recording, and producing everyday. The music on my soundcloud consists of me rapping on other people's beats, I'm slowly making enough on my own to where I can release a whole mixtape of original material

And yes, I do plan on self releasing the mixtape. I'm not sure how I'm going to go about mixing it; I know how to mix/master beats decently (I think) but I have trouble placing vocals properly into the mix.

Still don't know what mic to get!!!!
