...I get an embedded player and sometimes I get a link with the address spelled out. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

Example:



I want the player instead.

Never mind figured it out. I was copy and pasting the https and that doesn't work for the embedded player.

Yes that is the issue , https will not be converted.
