I am FINALLY starting my first grow, and am using a stealth PC in case my landlord comes through. I stripped an ond Gateway and mounted 2 exhaust fans, with intake being passive wherever it can pull through. The lights are in a custom hood I made of sheetmetal, and I have a 23w/100w 6500k with a 23/100 2700k on the way.

The soil is random soil scooped from my very succesful tomato plants. I had the 2 bagseeds in wet paper towel for 3 days, but they only swelled with no pop yet. I then popped them in the soil, where they will hopefully pop soon.
I'm considering making the small fan up by the lights an intake so the air would go:
------>
lights
<------
thus cooling the lights, but the lone bulb doesn't produce enough heat to warrant the laborious rewiring :b
Now I just anxiously await popping from the soil, and then cross my fingers for ladies

Every surface other than the fans are coated with aluminum tape. The exhausts will be light trapped/carbon scrubbed, but i'm running 24/0 until something comes out of the dirt so excess light isn't an issue. I'm very proud how well my light hood works

I'm a noob but you need more than one 23 watt bulb. At least 4 of those bulbs.
It will have 2 23w. I feel like that is sufficient for one plant. I also will transplant into a better container and get better soil. This is just my first foray into growing so I can learn a few things.

A couple of notes.
1. Ideally you want to have 100 watts going for one plant. If you have anyway possible of fitting 4 23w bulbs in there do it.
2. Stack your planter on books, DVD's ect.. to get it around 3 inches from the light. You'll want to remove books as it grows and always try to keep the top of the plant within a few inches of the bulb. With CFL's you don't have to worry about them burning because the bulb doesn't get too hot, only the base of the bulb.
3. Are you using nutrients? If yes start your feeding schedule 2 weeks after it sprouts. If no, seriously think about getting some.
Also, if you have any questions throughout this board is a great resource for you. I may not have the answer to all of your questions but rest assured somebody here does. Happy growing.

I haven't grown but have read a lot of journals and threads saying that 100w for one plant should be a starting point, and more if possible. But again, I've never grown. Will follow your grow, best of luck!

I will definitely try a lighting system implementing 4 23w cfl (i'll do 3 6500k and 1 2700k). I move out next weekend, but as soon as I move in I will be ordering nutes and rearranging my lighting. RbHrbMan, which nutes do you recommend? I don't know if i'll go organic or synthetic yet

In the past I have used TechnaFlora Recipe for Success line. I liked them well enough but I'm moving towards organic growing.
For my current run I'm using the Earth Juice Lineup. You can find more info on them here. http://www.hydro-org...?categoryID=560
I have:
EJ Grow
EJ Bloom
EJ Catalyst
EJ Meta K
EJ Micro

I will try to order some of those after I move on Sunday. So far my swollen beans haven't popped through the soil, but they've only been there a day and a half i shpose.

So, i've started anew. I am now running 91 watts, but will soon be running 100+! I planted a single bean from some Orange Crush(I'm surprised I could find a single seed). Hoping my lone seed is a girrrl!

For a PC case you are kinda locked into using CFL's only. Putting and HPS in there would be way too much heat to deal with.
A total of 100w is perfect for a PC box. I usually go with 4 26w bulbs.

I got some FFOF today, and also a bigger pot. I planted a single bagseed from some medical Orange Crush, so I hope it's a girl. Day 6 and it's not out of the soil, but it's emerged from the bean. How big should I let it get before transplanting it into the FFOF?

D: what happened?!? All was well before I went to sleep last night, and 6 hours later I find this! It is at least 4 inches from the lights, but it appears burnt?

Eww, kinda looks like it's a little dried out.
Question, how many lights do you have on that little baby? You don't want to go full throttle with the light until right around the first real set of leaves pop out your frying those cotyledons. Also cover the top of the cup with a plastic baggie or plastic wrap of some sorts until you see the serrated leaves pop out.

I have been running 75watts of 6500k cfl and 26watts of 2700k. I just took out my 42 watt bulb, because I feel like that could possibly be too much for my babeh. Also, I am now using a slow-release CO2 system, so I have very high hopes
How the fuck do you pronounce cotyledon? Is it like coh-till-eedin? or coh-till-uh-don?
