So the Muslim Brotherhood has won out in Egypt. Does anyone else see the problem with this? The new president-elect, Mohamed Morsi, is strictly adherent to Islam. He already has stated to Egyptian Christians that it is to be a strictly Islamic state, and those Coptic Christians that live there need either pay the heavy tax (a tax Islamic law places on religions not Islamic) or emigrate and get out. News outlets are stating he'll bring a stronger 'democratic' government to Egypt.

The Muslim Brotherhood has been linked to leaked documents in the 90s that stated their mission in creating a front in the USA is to undermine the FBI/CIA and take root into Western society to overturn Western ideals and the evil it brings to Islam.

CNN and other news networks are touting him as a good thing. They claim he is an American-educated engineer (this is true, he received a degree in California) and that he stands for woman's rights and civil liberties. They also say he stands for negotiations and treaties with Israel.

Oh, really? You're a part of a fanatical Muslim group that is known for holding back woman's rights and has released documents in favor of the downfall of America through subversive tactics, AND you're imposing penalties on other religious minorities in your country. Oh, don't forget the Muslim Brotherhood also funneled money to Hamas back in the 90s, a group known for its attacks against Israel.

And they're touted as a good thing. Does anyone else see 2-3 years down the road when the USA invades and throws this guy out? It sounds like another operation similar to the Taliban --hell sure Wikipedia can't be right about everything but just looking up the Muslim Brotherhood there opens my eyes to a lot of "WHAT THE FUCK?" thoughts.

As long as groups exist that follow strict Islamic law -- (I'm no Islamic scholar, mind you) which strictly seems to associate outside religions that are not Muslim to be evil or a threat to Islam, I will not put my trust in them. I have nothing against Muslims, but it just seems to be there is a lot of radical Islamic groups that want nothing but the downfall of every other major religion or government and their eventual subversion to Islamic ideals. And they're in the thick of all the governmental systems in place 'over there.'

I feel deja vu coming on. Like this whole American propped up dictatorship for decades is overthrown through a revolution that turns into an Islamic Republic has happened before somewhere

Hmmm, seems like history is repeating itself. How shocking.

This is who the people want. This is who they voted for, and isn't that what the US always wants? A democracy? The people there are Muslim and they want Muslim leaders. Get over it.

This is what I think too. I may not agree with their choice but it's THEIR choice. Besides, the Muslim Brotherhood is not what it once was. I will not speak negatively about Morsi until he really does some of the things OP mentioned.

Exactly. The people of Egypt finally get a civilian, elected leader, and we get the anti-Muslim rhetoric being thrown his way immediately. It's totally unwarranted, so far, since he hasn't actually done anything at all yet. As if a secular dictator is better than a Muslim president.

The fact is that the Muslim Brotherhood is supported by the majority of the people there. Who are we to tell them otherwise, and with the track record of America, we have absolutely no moral high ground to stand on and preach to other nations about anything.

The credo of the Muslim Brotherhood:

"God is our objective; the Quran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader; Jihad is our way; and death for the sake of God is the highest of our aspirations."

So there will be no more pork in their government's budget?

Isn't that what the Tea party wants to hear from their candidates?

Just a thought...

The new guy will do no worse than the last guy did, more than likely. But he'll be no Tutankhamen that's fer sure.

The Coptic Christians and Muslims have coexisted for centuries in Egypt. It's the secular dictator Mubarak who has been responsible for Christian deaths and oppression in Egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamicist groups have protected Christian churches from the secular military oppression there. Likewise the Christians and Muslims both protested alongside one another against the Mubarak regime. When the military attacked the Muslims as they prayed, the Christian protestors shielded them with their bodies. They were protesting together, as brothers.

You and most others it seems don't know shit about what's happening in Egypt and just automatically see a Muslim leader as bad. This is why people think Americans are stupid and should mind their own business. They are correct.

You have a point. Mostly because in the end they only had a choice between 2 candidates. I think this is always a bad idea, I prefer a parliamentary system.
Do you have a better alternative to democracy? It's not perfect but I do think it's the best we have.

Yeah a two party system's never really a good plan. Devil and the deep blue sea.

Yes, anarcho capitalism. Far better than democracy in that it's not inherently opressive to minorities.
