Greetings all, I'm wondering if some of you would mind sharing your wisdom with me on the topic of a LOOOONG VEG phase.

I am growing just ONE plant (C99, from female seed company) indide a 4'(W)x5'(L)x6'(H) box. I am using a 600w HPS, promix and GH nutes.

This will be my third grow and I've had good results with topping and LSTing but I do not scrog.

So....here's my thought/theory:

If I vegged her for 2-3 months and topped and LSTed her throughout that time would I end up with a plant with a very large number of bud sites or is there a maximum number of branches/budding sites that a plant will produce regardless of how long you let her veg for?

Do any of you have any experience (good or bad) with what happens when you allow a plant to veg for a very long time?

Thanks for taking the time to read my noob question:smoke:

you can get mental results from long vegging periods, Ive come to the conclusion the longer the better, I always used to leave them vegging for 4-5 weeks but now i have the patients to leave them 8-9 weeks and am constantly amazed with yield. To put it in perspective, under the exact same conditions, i was averaging 3.5 oz per plant with only 4 weeks veg, now expect at least 6-8 with 8 weeks veg - more for the plants I top. Ive also seen professional growers who have had the same mother plant for 2-3 YEARS vegging away stick them into flower and yield insane amounts under standard HPS lighting - but they look strangely similar to olive trees after this amount of time :P

Thanks for your thoughts justatoruser. I'm just trying to come up with a way to absolutely maximize the yield from a single plant. I don't really care about how cost efficient it is or maximum gram/watt. I just want to fill up my grow space with as much "green" as I can. I'm a patient man!

Yes vegging longer is the key to any huge yields but keep in mind with long veg periods salt build ups will occur so flushing has to be done every month or so pending amounts of nutrients you feed also vegging for long periods create huge plants so your going to need room just not grow in some box transplanting is a must for long veg periods as main issue will occur is having a plant root bound plant so your going to need to transplant into some bigger pots also
if you want take a look in the scrog thread my last post gives you a idea on how big a plant can get i cloned in jan and have had them under flourescents plants will end up being 5 - 6 feet tall by 5 to 6 feet wide when flipping into flower giving me possibly 2 to 3 pounds per plant i hope

Thats fair enough, but there is always an efficiency argument, because if it gets to a point where 2 more weeks of veg will yield you an exra ounce but four weeks of veg will only yield you an ounce and a half, by this reasoning you may aswell save yourself 2 weeks and crack on with the next plant - even if it is one at a time. I think you will be very impressed with 8-10 weeks vegging, I dont think youll gain a substantial amount from vegging beyond that. Good luck, Id be keen to see your results whatever.

My babies are pushing 5 weeks, little tent (60cm sq) 250wt hps. Getting crowded but being my 3rd indoor grow, I will now push it up, perhaps to 7 or 8 weeks. They are sexing (good so far). Reading all the posts regarding veg time, the evidence seems to point to, more vegging time, bigger plant and therefore, bigger yields.
I have made so many mistakes from my first 2 grows and that is the kind of student I am. Make the bo bo and hopefully, only one time.
The first 2 grows I was running a bit scared and now I have so much more confidence I am cautiously optimistic about having a really great grow this time.
I tried small, and I tried big pots and I have found for my situation the 3 gallon pot is the right size for me. I buy the Ikea trash cans for 2bucks(euros), melt small holes for drainage and they are perfect.
Someday I want to be able to grow a totally organic grow but until then I will use the Hesi which actually works well for me.
Plants for this grow, 1 lsd, 1 vio kush, 1 mazar,1 big bend and 1 ufo (don't know what it is). Growing is getting more fun as I go along and get a little better every grow.
I swear by Spinosad (it rid me of a secere Thrips infestation). I also tried a crop of different Autos and I found them so easy to grow but I was really sad about the quality of the smoke.
Happy Trails! in Berlin
