It's not a one party thing, both sides do it. The reason they do it is the same as brand recognition; the more times you can get someone to talk about a product the more likely they are to tell their friends and buy the product themselves, or at the very least keeps them on top of peoples minds.

Hollywood latches onto the liberal ideology to make it seem like they care about anything other than themselves. This increases their popularity which translates into more sales of their movies. Celebrities can't be bothered to become educated on issues, so they support the Democrats, since it takes no intelligence or research at all to say "We must support the poor" .. "We can't let old people die on the streets"... Etc., etc.
