[UPDATED] Do You Qualify for a Medical Marijuana Recommendation

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by WildWill, Jun 12, 2012.

  1. I'm in Montreal Quebec and have severe rheumatoid arthritis (diagnosed 14 years ago) I've taken drugs like methotrexate which is also used to treat CANCER when I was 7 years old! I also suffer from migraines and abdominal migraines, which all through elementary and high school made me vomit daily. I weighed only 65 pounds when I started grade 7 (high school here) When I was in high school, I discovered marijuana. I've been trying to get my medical card since I was about 16 (you don't have to be 18 for it here as long as your parent consents) when my mother made the phone calls to find out how to go about getting it, she mentioned depression, anxiety and BPD while listing my conditions and they told us that they won't prescribe to people with mental illness, even though cannabis helps my depression and anxiety. (I don't think I even have BPD) so basically my problem is
    A) my rheumatologist isn't supportive of medical marijuana because she deals mostly with paediatric care. I have an appointment with a new rheumatologist next June but I've been waiting years for this and I don't even know if this doctor is pot-friendly. Anyone in Montreal know of any doctors (preferably rheumatologists) who are willing to prescribe? I've heard of a doctor at the Montreal General (Dr. Ware I believe his name is???) but he specialises in cancer, though I've heard of people going to him for other things simply because he's one of the few doctors who supports it.
    B) will my history of having a mental illness change anything? If I don't mention it to the compassion club, will my doctor have to mention it in my prescription?
And c) should I even bother just doing compassion club or should I try for MMAR (VERY HARD TO GET)

  2. I'm a m.s. patient and blind and I live in chronic pain, if it wasn't for marijuana..I would not eat, my anxiety is really better

  3. I got my MMJ card in Sacramento California for "tobacco addiction"

  4. I'm worried about the "system" or set-up in Illinois. THOUSANDS of people have applied but only a few hundred have been approved. The most common complaint I'm hearing from folks is that their doctors are hesitant or outright refuse to recommend them for medical marijuana. Plus the list of conditions is SO small. Plus the supply is being kept artificially low with limits on the number of cultivation centers AND dispensaries. It's a mess.

  5. Looks like Illinois is keeping it very restricted to Diseases and Illness that are Terminal.  Maybe once the program starts to get going more it will loosen the rules. You will start to see  MJ friendly doctors moving into the state and setting up practices and with the climate change with herb being "legalized" I bet they will start to give out cards to more patients.

  7. If I had testicular cancer is that a qualifying condition ?  I had a tumor that did not metastasize/spread and it was removed about a year and half ago.  I am currently undergoing surveillance to make sure it does not come back.  Would this be a qualifying condition in the state of New Jersey ?
\nThank you for any replies in advance.
    \nCheers!

medical necessity exist in Florida and has since 1991. While some consider this a legal grey area, many floridians get the relief they need. The recent bill propsed will make aquiring cannabis harder and more restrictive to what you can get. and the sad part is that there are so many in favor of that very thing.

  10. Didn't see it on the list, but is depression a valid reason to qualify in Michigan? It really seems to help me with that. I also have insomnia and a naturally low appetite. Sometimes I go a few days without eating because I just forget. MJ helps these symptoms for me, but I'm not sure how difficult it is to qualify. I've met some HS and college kids that didn't have any legitimate problems, and they had MMJ cards somehow. How do you prove severe/chronic pain or severe nausea? I don't want to go to a dispensary because they charge like $20/gram, but I believe you can legally grow up to 12 plants.

My grandmother, whom resides in Virginia, is in a rehab/nursing home facility after taking a fall in the kitchen in February. She's had falls before on her other leg and has had a hip replacement and knee replacement.

It's been a month and a half and she doesn't seem to be getting better. She came in with a decent appetite, 136 lbs, able to walk thirty steps with a walker, went to therapy and did her exercises.

Now half the time she's incoherent a lot of times, lost ten pounds, doesn't get out of bed anymore, her legs hurt so much now from not standing anymore that she can't even move them in bed without help. She doesn't eat from what the nurses tell me(I'm her grandson) and seems to only eat more when I'm around.

She has a 2 centimeters by 4 centimeters bed sore on the middle of her upper bottom which is NOT INFECTED but it looks terrible! The nurses asked her the other day why she isn't eating or really doing anything (like she's giving up) and asked if she's depressed. She said yes, she looked like she was half asleep dude to the dilata they give her, but right after they made the decision to put her on Remeron for the depression and for an appetite stimulate. We've been trying to get them to get her on marinol but they want to try everything else before they do.

What could my grandmother take instead of all these bs meds that they say will help but it really looks like it's making things worse. She can't into the rehab from the hospital with a prescription for some anti nausea medicine and she never gets nauseated.

  14. I'm 17 and i have manic bipolar disorder severe depression and anxiety. All my other medications ive tried i had to stop because they made me suicidal. My parents want to try and get me a medical marijuana card but we don't know what the age requirements are. I live in california like i said im 17 and i definitely have both my parents approval and they'll help me with whatever they can to get it. You can qualify with SOME cannabis specialists. Call and ask the doctor's policy before making an appointment. Take both of your parents! Bring any medical records you have that mention your condition. You and your parents need California ID and proof of residency.  Your parents will have to be your "caretakers" and do any actual buying. As soon as the receptionist hands your parents the recommendation, your parent can buy cannabis for you. Try the "High CBD strains first- they won't get you as high and CBD is an anti-anxiety medication.

Cannabidiol reduces the anxiety induced by simulated public speaking in treatment-naïve social phobia patients.      (full – 2011)     http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3079847/

Your parents need to buy you a vaporizer- they are easier on the lungs than smoking.[IMG]  They are pricey -expect to pay $150 or more for a decent one. Do NOT buy a "El Cheapo" Ebay knock off! They are crap! Get a good American-made vaporizer. Do a little reading about them here at GC.

You should consider growing your own as soon as you find out what strain(s) helps you the best. Be honest with your budtender about your medical conditions, and ask his/her advice on strains.  Leafly also has a strain guide that may be helpful-

And expect to be banned- you are a few month's shy of being a legal member of GC. [IMG]

If you need to talk more and are banned, check out the bottom of my sig and email me! I am your "Ganja Granny", here to help you! [IMG]  (FYI- My mother was bipolar and suicided.) I read more medical studies than most doctors and I have a large collection of them that I share with folks. The section on bipolar isn't large, so I'll use it to show you what my List is like-

Genetic association between bipolar disorder and 524A>C (Leu133Ile) polymorphism of CNR2 gene, encoding for CB2 cannabinoid receptor.         (abst - 2011)  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21658778

  16. If I am on probation in Texas for a Class B Misdemeanor for possession of medical awesomeness but about to move to Arizona, does anyone know if I could obtain a card?
I have three of the qualifying conditions with valid medical records to prove said conditions.

    Thanks!

  18. Not seeing anything about anxiety on that list for Cali... Then again it does say that the OP was in 2012. :/

I deal with anxiety so awful it makes me sick, unable to eat or sleep, and has caused me to go into depressive episodes that can last weeks. It keeps me hiding indoors rather than going out and seeing people or the sun or getting to the gym to exercise like I need to. Makes it hard to do most anything, really.

In addition I suffer from inflammation and knee pain in both knees due to a sports injury in high school which I received surgery for that did not fix the problem and a work injury which only gets worse the more weight I gain. I also suffer from digestive problems like GERD and IBS which puts a constant burning in my chest unless I take medication and sharp stinging pains in my abdomen after I drink a cup of coffee or eat a slice of jalapeno.

I have paperwork for the anxiety I was diagnosed with four years ago and the prescriptions I was given for them. (which didn't work and made it worse, even.) I also have paperwork for the surgery I had on my knee, obviously, which again still bothers me as the surgeon was not able to fix the ruined cartilage in my knee. I do not have papers for the GERD because I have yet to see a doctor for it. Money issues. But I'll be doing that soon. Cannabis has helped me with all of these problems.

    Would I qualify in Cali?
