Hey blades. So, I'm looking at a car (automatic) with 60,000 miles on it. It has a rebuilt transmission, new battery and brakes within the last year.

I've heard from a couple people that getting a transmission rebuilt that early into the cars mileage (although it is a 99') means they drove the shit out of it and the engine is probably next.

What do you think?

i think you need to stop looking at automatic v6 mustangs.... or since you're hell bent on one go find a mustang forum, they will be a much better source than a bunch of stoners who more than likely dont give a shit or know anything about cars.

Not always. Try asking the owner why the trans was rebuilt so soon, sometimes it's not because the transmission gave out. Also, what make/model is this? I doubt the engine would start causing problems after 60k..in any event, if you don't feel confident about it, don't do it. I'm sure you have plenty of other options

It more or less comes down to who rebuilt it and what happened to it. If it was rebuilt by somebody who knew what they were doing that thing is like new if somesbody half assed it it will probably not be worth your money. I'm not a master mechanic or anything but I doubt the transmission going means the engine is going. There is a good chance there was a leak and when the transmission fluid ran out the tranny locked up. Like qwerty said if you aren't comfortable dont do it.
