Well I've seen these for a while now, they went away and now are back. The last time - a rez change and good flushing and they seemed to be gone.

Unfortunately their back, and with a vengeance in numbers.

I honestly do not see that their really causing any problems, except making my otherwise sterile conditions less than prime.

What type of medium; soil or hydro? hydroton / full hydro
What brand and type of soil? n/a
Indoors or outdoors? In
What strain? several
How old are the plants? varying between 1mo - 1yr
What type of lights and how many watts? 16x t5 HO (860w?)
How far from the lights? 6"
What is your watering frequency and source of water? 4hrs - reservoir/Reverse osmosis
What, how much and when was it fed? NPK? Home blend ~16(3) organics
What is the medium/runoff pH and PPM if in hydro? ~5.7 / ~600ppm
What are the temps and humidity in the room? 70F/50%
What size pots? 4.5" square
Any bugs? Look real close. YES =)
Any other pertinent info?

See high resolution pics - these bugs / larvae are TINY - so dont mistake the picture for them being bigger than what they are. The pictures were taken with VERY heavy magnification.

Also There are no other bugs / gnats etc in the room, and there are hot shot strips up, gnatrol has been used / h2o2 etc and they are still here.

So.. Anyone know what they are? and if it's worth making them disappear? Their 'not' spider mites, their not gnat larvae, (Unfortunately I've seen those before) - frankly I'm stumped..

*Also* feel free to snag the pics if you need them for pests guides =)

From what I can tell - they 'have' legs, and possibly antennae? I have honestly really never looked close at maggots or common fly larvae. In the high res photo you can see tiny tiny legs.

Below is the original size pic

Quick update: Dont know what they are still, but it seems NEEM wipes them out =)

Went ahead and did a deep / long flood with about 2T of neem, not seeing any floaters -like I normally see during a regular flood, I did see '1' moving, which is quite the improvement over normal of hundreds of them.

I'll keep ya posted - still would be nice to get a confirmation as to what they are.

Update: Seems for the most part that a majority of them are gone. I see '1' here and there, but no real significant numbers.

As a side benefit to the neem (Algaecide) I have not a speck of algae growing, and it almost cleans my flood table =) Also I'm not sure if I mentioned before - This table is a 4x4' flood/drain setup, and it floods to ~3.5-4" deep. I put in ~2 tablespoons of neem concentrate..

I read some places that said NOT to do it this way, but I'm definitely not seeing any ill effects.

Anyone figured out what the pests are?

Warning. I used about 1T of neem in my veg room, as a flood. About two weeks later, every plant I treated in this manner has either died or is barely clinging to life. I have done multiple flushes to recover theses plants and it looks like some are finally going to pull through. I lost 7 teens in this manner. Please use with caution.

On a positive note, the gnats are GONE.

I set my next grow out back by a number of weeks. I was prepping these teens to go outside while I shut the indoor room down over july/august (heat issues). Of the 18 teens I had prepping, I still have 11. Also glad I cut clones about a week before they started dying, genetics are preserved.

8-9 days post neem treatment and no signs of bugs algae or anything. I ran the neem concentrate for 4 days straight. 1 cap full of the 3 n 1 stuff - right in the tray and initiated a manual flood for abt 10mins.

After it ran those 4 days did a full rez change (25g),, all plants seem healthy and happy 4days post rez change.

Such is my experience..

/very happy so far
