I hope there isn't a thread for this already (if there is please just send me the link:))

I know there isn't a correct answer yet, but I am just interested in what the GC Community believes will happen if/when marijuana is legalized.

In other words, I just want to hear other people's opinions on the matter.

My main thoughts are:

1. How would the price change?

I have heard that it would be more expensive because of taxes, however I personally think that it would be cheaper due to the amount of people who would buy it, not to mention that the rest of the plant has many uses for products

2. Would recreational marijuana be just as potent as medical?

It may sound dumb, but when I think about it I can see why "prescription strength" wouldn't be available to everyone

If anyone can help me search for this video I'd appreciate it.

I have no doubt that it won't get more potent, but I'm wondering if the recreational marijuana will be the same as medical. For example, you get Nyquil at the store, but Codeine requires a prescription

Yeah the price will drop tremendously.
10c a gram is farfetched though. May as well be
free at that price. Mmmmmm, free weed.

No way will price go up. I am thinking more like
a buck a gram in raw form. More with value added
stuff like concentrates and edibles.

Recreational cannabis will get as potent as it can get.
Medical not so much. Big Pharma will be the players
in medical. Recreational cannabis will be more of
you and me growing and experimenting on a much larger
scale (relative to today) with a different thrust than Big Pharma.

We will select and grow for the recreational high (more THC, less CBD),
whereas the opposite will happen with Big Pharma.
Though I wonder if modern science gets fully into cannabis research,
might we see a superstrain or 3 emerge? Here's hoping.

I've had people try to explain that because it's going to be taxed the price will rise...I don't remember what they said when I mentioned that people will just continue to buy off of the black market if the price rises when legalized

Yeah, there's no way to keep it off the streets unless it gets so cheap that there
is no money in it.

This leads to another byproduct of legalization. US GDP.
Gonna go in the shitter. Seriously. A purge.
A reset. US GDP cut in half? Not as outlandish as it
sounds.

The world will run into chaos, with marijuana being legal, every single individual will use it causing violence and destruction, the likes of which you and everyone else has never seen.

Dude... an O of danky dank for anywhere near $50 would make me cream myself big time.
There's going to have to be some marijuana-tech increases for the price to drop though. It seems to be such a pain in the ass to actually trim the buds, the price would still be expensive-ish just cause of that.
However, once the Eli Whitney of Ganj comes around and creates the Bud-Gin, 50c-$1 wouldn't be that crazy of a thought.

Too much to dream about right now in my opinion, but it's cool to think about.

I think that the prices will actually be pretty close to tobacco prices. It's easier to grow weed, but since it's not physically addicting, there isn't quite the regular use market that tobacco has. You'll also see a LOT of taxes heaped on top of it... look at the luxury or "sin" taxes that alchohol, tobacco, and in some places soda have on top of the price.

The world will change

People will start to see what the world actually is, there will be rebellion against the government, everyone will be more down to earth and chill

Celebrities will start to lose their statuses as someone important, and the real winners will be the people that actually make a difference in the world

There will be more inventions.

People will start to turn against the pharma industry and switch to more natural ways for fixing a problem

Less violence, less war

Hahaha, those were all awesome posts. I feel like the market will grow for it and exceed tobacco at some point though. I'd never be able to smoke "a pack a day" of weed though so maybe it'll come off as less of a market anyway. Can't imagine people still smoking tobacco if weed was legalized hahah. I bet they'll come out with some more mild strains to basically be the equivalent stress reliever durin the day as cigarettes.

Here's the thing. In America and many other places the popular way to ingest cannabis is by burning the flowers and inhaling the vapors. Most people don't realize the active components are found in the trichomes on the flowers and can be extracted in many ways. What I expect to happen is a standardization of cannabinoid profiles and concentrations to result in a stronger hash market. Hash is cleaner and more concentrated resulting in less harsh health effects than smoking the flowers and reduced shipping costs. I expect a gram of very high grade hashish to sell at $20.

If you look at medical states already there are no big evil companies behind a the different strains so I don't believe that'll change. Truth is, people will just grow more in their homes, so I dont think the corporation Market will become very big. I mean, if you realise ur weeds being grown wiv radioactive chemicals and is having loads of shit added to it, you'll just get a hold of some seeds and have your own herb supplier right in your garden.
