Parents are divorcing
My mom wants me to support my family and im only 18.
He emotional abused me and my mother for years, its gotten physical alot of the time.
Does anyone else's single parents expect them to support a family?
Any responses would help..

Well I'm Mexican and how our culture is pretty much your parents never kick you out but you have to support them until u die pretty much, they did raise after all.but if your mom isn't hella old why can't she get a job and u just help her out but not fully support that's just impossible.

sounds like it needed to happen man. you gotta live your life,if you had plans of moving out and going on to school or work or to better yourself definitely do it.
don't bear this burden, its truly not yours . it would definitely be honorable but it would also be foolish to sacrifice your future for your family, when there have to be alternative means for their survival (besides you carrying them)

While you are obligated to help, it's unrealistic for you to fully support your family. Your mom and siblings gotta do their part

I concur. If your mom expects you take the full load then that's asking too much. If all able bodies are doing their effort to help support your family sure but an 18 year old supporting a whole family seems unreasonable unless you have a damn good job... good luck man

You need to have a discussion with your younglings. From my understanding your mother isn't exactly a prized parent either. She needs to do her part for the family as well. Try and have the young ones understand the situation you are now in with the family. I see your mother just trying to fight you on anything you say about it.
Goodluck though I wish you and your family the best.

Well, if she's like that you only have 2 choices. 1: you give up your life and support your family(you'll try both but eventually family wins out) or 2: you move out and start your life. She will not stop hounding until you do make the choice between 1 or 2. Sorry man

? You have any idea how many times I've seen this situation? I've seen both scenarios work through, the one who chose option 1 actually killed himself.
