Anderson Silva is a disgrace to the sport

  1. Arguably the best pound for pound fighter to ever enter the octagon, Anderson Silva's record speaks for how good at defeating his opponents he really is. But look at the way he does it. Dropping his hands and keeping them down, letting them get a punch in. Avoids going to the ground and turning his back to a downed fighter. Refusing to even fight during most of the Damian Maia fight, until he decided it was time to finish it.

Cockiness and arrogance doesn't begin to describe Anderson Silva, that describes Nat Diaz. Silva is beyond that. What a waste of raw talent, he could be an ambassador for the UFC but clearly his ego is too big. He shows no respect to the sport or his opponents and frankly, I look forward to the day somebody is good enough to end his career.

Tell me I'm not alone in disliking Anderson Silva.

  2. you just called nate diaz cocky? dude are you serious, there is a fine line between cocky and confident. nate was never cocky, being cocky would be "well i can knock anyone out", does nate show boat? no, he puts his hands up and down but keeps on fighting to the finish, he doesnt dance around like silva does, now thats cocky.

  3. Well if i could knock any ***** out like him I'd be cocky lol.

  4. His days are numbered... and nate and nick diaz are in a different boat then silva! Chael sonnen has his number and think he has a good chance at beating him even though hes not the most loved/exciting fighter! If I had a my way id put silva in the cage with fador!! ;)

  5. I completely disagree with you in every possible way.

    Anderson Silva is a master.

He's an artist. Watching him fight is a work of beauty.

If you think he's a 'disgrace' for being a little cocky when he's defeated the best men in the world in his weight class for six long years - and done so effortlessly (barring arguably the second best - Chael Sonnen), then you need to take a look at your own ego.

A statement like that screams of jealousy and internal issues. You don't like men who are bad ass motherfuckers being confident because you don't like the idea of being weak in comparison to other men. (At least that's what I got out of reading your post - I could be wrong ofc :smoke:).

  6. I kind of look at it both ways. My dad and I ordered the Demian Maia fight on PPV, and my dad said much the same as the OP, and that it was the last AS pay-per-view that he'd buy.

I don't think he paid any respect to the fans in that particular fight. He was content to just run around with the much slower Maia, and made it one of the most boring five rounders i've ever had the misfortune to witness. If Maia was such a bad opponent, why not knock his ass out in the first 20 seconds instead of dragging it on for 25 agonizing minutes practicing his dance routine? He also wanted nothing to do with Maia on the ground.

But then if I look at the big picture, all the guys he's fought and destroyed, what he's achieved in the sport as a whole, he's far from a disgrace to the sport.

I'll agree with VikingToker. AS is an artist. But i'll also agree that he really, really needs someone to punch his head and deflate it a little.:smoke:

  7. I love mixed martial arts :D..However I am going to say this..Anderson Silva is without quesion a savage..But "anyone" who puts their hands down in a fight should re evaluate some decision making..

I understand how fast he is and its unbelievable..But when you put your hands down in a fight you leave yourself vulnrable and there is no argueing that..I repsect him as a fighter and he is extremely talented at what he does..However if he continues to do things of that nature (I'm refering to when he just puts his hands completely down and starts weaving shit) there is a higher probability of him getting caught in the chin I imagine then if he had his hands up.

  8. He is an amazing spontaneous fighter, granted he does act like an asshole, that is very much happening in UFC either in the ring or out of it. You cannot expect a UFC fighter to show respect as they do in old school martial arts where the goal is not to beat your opponent to death but rather go multiple other shorter rounds to test skill

  9. who cares wtf he does he wins.

  10. lol at OP.

  11. it doesn't matter, he won, he is a champ

  12. i would be a disgrace to if i was one if not the best MMA fighter in the world and getting paid shit, UFC fighters only get paid $150,000 a fight and thats if your a title holder, mean while top boxing conteders are getting paid 1 mil a fight, if it wasn't for sponsors the fighters wouldnt be able to pay for training, gym memberships, equipment, ect.. so i say let him do what he wants in the ring as long as he puts the guy down at the end of the day and wins the fight it doesn't really matter.

  13. Only get paid $150,000?!?!?! I'd take $50k to fight one of them and get my ass beat.

  14. yeah but when boxer's , hockey players, baseball players, ect are getting paid a million or more a year and their job is far more dangerous, well except for boxing they take more blows to the head, but anyway their getting paid peanuts, and lol

  15. Where does the money come from to pay them per fight? Obviously, with a tremendously smaller fan-base, the players aren't going to be getting paid as much.

  16. anderson silva is a very humble guy lol idk wtf your talking about. he's the best and remains humble and a nice guy and you're hating on him?

just because he's good enough to drop his hands and still make everyone miss and knock them on their ass, doesn't mean he's a cocky asshole. it just means he can read you like a book and has the reaction time to put you out as well

  17. They call it Mixed Martial ARTS

They way in which he dances in the ring is part of his fighting style. The Western crowd doesn't understand martial arts in that sense, they just want to see some fighting. But what Anderson does is psychological, it fucks up his current and other opponents heads. Makes him unpredictable. You don't know if he's going to dance or get the job done fast.

Watch how certain animals behave in combat and you will get a better understanding of silva's behavior.

Anderson has mastered the psychological aspect of martial arts that so many overlook. And that is why he's at where he is at. He is a true artist. Respect that.

  18. I never said he wasn't the best, in fact I highlighted that in the opening statement. Most of you from the first page fail at reading comprehension apparently. I said he's a disgrace to the sport, even though he's the best pound for pound fighter (possibly ever?). Not once did I talk about a lack of skill, or how he isn't great. I talked about composure and sportsmanship. If you claim "he wins fights, stfu" then you really don't belong in this thread because we're talking about two different things. Sportsmanship is scrutinized in EVERY sport in the world. Fighting isn't any different.

Whoever posted that I'm jealous, I just don't get where you can gather that. I don't practice MMA, I simply pay to watch it. I expect a certain level of poise and respect from any televised sporting event. Just because this sport borders on barbarianism doesn't mean they get to slide socially. If Anderson Silva shaped up his act, I'd be singing a different tune.

In the end, he wins, he brings ratings and dollars to UFC. But at what point do we start to expect more from our fighters? If it was just about the fights anyone could load up youtube and watch bumfights or schoolyard bullies. The thing is, this is a civilized and organized league that deserves better than what he brings to the table.

Of course, you're entitled to your own opinion. I simply think it isn't one you've thought out well.

I think going out of your way to call Anderson Silva a 'disgrace to the sport' is far too much, however. Far too much. If you're trying to compare dropping your hands in a fight (which is also a baiting strategy - look at the counters he put on Griffin after dropping his hands) - with bumfights, then we've got nothing to talk about as fans of the sport.

By your logic, why single out Silva? Why not Sonnen, who does ten times the trash talking and insults people's wives and an entire nation (and gets way more camera time than Silva)?

Edit: I think Sonnen is funny, my opinion isn't biased, I'm simply trying to understand why OP thinks as he does.

Edit edit: Have you even noticed how Silva gets down - not just on his knees, but completely prostrate in front of his opponents after he wins - and is the only one who does that? I fucking love that. He's a martial artist.

You can have the last word on this, I'm done, you're clearly not very perceptive and I'm wasting my time on attempts at an intelligent discussion.

  20. Viking, I can't believe you think Sonnen is funny man! Sonnen is the fakest POS out there, his trash talk is so goofy and disingenuous. He sounds like a 13 year old kid trash talking another kid before a schoolyard brawl.

That and his fights are boring as shit.

You're too cool to like Sonnen bro
