Can you decarb weed in a microwave?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by betagamma, May 31, 2012.

  1. If you can, how do you do it. I cant use an oven.

  2. Nothing a microwave can help you with that i know of. Just smoke it instead, it'll be more effective in the end

  3. I agree with jk cole. From your other thread describing how your farmhouse doesn't have an oven or any other modern day appliance, I'm guessing your going to use someone else's microwave. I don't suggest that AT ALL because it's a waste of time, I suggest you smoke it because even if you do make an edible I'm sure your cattle will probably get at it and make a mess of your farm and garden.

  7. Just for that, I'm going to steal your cow.

  8. yes just make sure the plate doesn't get to hot and burn your weed theres a guide somewhere on here.

  9. Microwaves are very variable, even those of the same model, from the same manufacturer.

Your margin for error when microwaving to induce decarboxylation is ludicrously small, and variable.

In the oven, where it takes several minutes (20 - 30 or so), you could have a three or four minute window towards the end where you may detect virtually no noticeable difference in potency.

In the microwave on the other hand, after a mere five seconds or so you may have anything from a small fire, far surpassing decarboxylation, to still completely inactive and damp material.

Unlike when evenly dispersing smaller and larger amounts of herb in the oven, when it has been set at a specific temperature, for even decarboxylation to occur with even distribution, regardless how flat and evenly you lay and disperse the material on your tray, the amount of material used in the microwave will much more dramatically alter the time and exposure required. That, and sometimes the center of a specific area of the microwave finishes first, or the edges will become over-done before the center begins.

In a matter of seconds, you may begin vaporizing and burning off all your cannabinoids, or you may be left with completely inactive material.

And you won't know, or have any way to determine how well you microwave works at any given setting, with any given amount, until you send set after set of samples (strict sets, undergoing various exposure/time) to the labs.

And all those negative points aside, nearly every other or half the members here at GC (as well as a few other forums) who tried this, found their herb caught on fire in as little as between 7 - 30 seconds... the rest who were fortunate enough not to go up in flames, found that their results were unreliable, at best.

hmm... Use the oven for decarbing the grass because it has been proven to work; microwaves might cause you to loose some thc.

  11. Could I use the inside of my computer while playing Crysis and Max Payne 3 as an oven???
