Quick How to Graft Cannabis

  1. Hey GC!

Well here is a quick how to on "Grafting" cannabis plants. After hearing about this from a friend who pretended he knew something about this. I came right to the city to see what it was all about. Couldn't find much so I moved to google. I personally didn't try this yet as my youngest plant that I will be taking a clone from isn't large enough. If anyone has more info on this please add as I should be doing this by middle of june.

Grafting is when you basically connect clones from other plants onto 1 plant. This would be great to use if you want to flower the one plant or if you want one mother plant with multi strains to choose from to take more clones off of. All the plants first much be in vegetation. Pick the mother plant that the clones will be fused to. On the mother plant find a thick lower or middle branch and make a splice. Make sure you make 2 decent sized sides. This will allow the clone to fuse faster and healthier. Then cut off that branch o you have atlas 2 inch's of space from the main stem on the mother. If can simply throw it out or use it as a clone to flower. Then cut a “v” in the cut end of that branch. Take a clone from another plant, just like you were taking another clone. Cut an opposite shaped “v” that will fit like a puzzle piece to the mother plant. This can be repeated with other strains on the same mother plant as much as she would allow.

Once the mother plant and the other strain clone is fitted you can simply use medical tape to hold together. Now you want the lights to be any where from 18/6 to 24/0 to allow the fusion of the strains to complete. If need be you can use a larger zip lock bag. Spray the inside of the bag and place over the clone on the mother plant. Creating more humidity with lots of light making a happier healthier cannabis plant. When grafting you should really make sure the 2 or more strains on the mother plant should have the roughly the same amount of flowering time.

Heres how to Clone or take a Clone.

  2. umm okay, But this has been discussed at length here @ GC ( use the search function next time) .and the concensus is... there is no reason to graft cannabis.

    none at all.

matter of fact your grafted "multi-plant" will suffer, as most roots are attuned to the said strain ..not a cutting attached to the root stock.

  3. Thanks for the info I did use the search but i only found bits and pieces, thought I was being useful lol. So its not worth it your saying?

  4. Interesting tid bit of info but I can't really see any use for it. Seems only like something to do, just to do it.

  5. it can be worth it. if you are trying to keep a multi-strian mother, just it is really really hard to pull off.

Any experience with this? Care to share?

  7. I have grafted apple trees befor and it wasnt all that hard . never a dope plant though. the trick is to make sure no air gets into the cuts, wounds while its healing. im not claiming to know what im doing by anymeans im just letting you know what worked for me .

No I hear ya what did you use to keep air out and hold them together?

  9. Damn ... no use you say ???

what about the most awesome multi strain cannabis plant as an ultimate stoner gift !!!

    step 1.
bring together 4 awesome sative strains, maybe 2 indico

    step 2.
fuse that together with a strong mother with about the same flowering time as rest

    step 3.
Pray to the grow gods of the universe that this shit will work and you were not irrational and stoned out of your mind on a grow forum while staring into your grow room

    step 4.
IT WORKED !, no way your giving this as a gift ... back into 18 hours of light, waiting for Christmas, start flowering and have it fully bloomed and dried in your living room as your Christmas tree !!!

and that was my 2 min fantasy after reading this post :D

  10. after you make you cuts you smother it in a light jacket of grafting putty. its kind of like plasticine . then i used a stip of 1'' wide clear polly plastic about 18'' long and wrap the whole surgical area then tie it tight . on a couple of them i used fishing like to hold the cuts all tight and firm on eachother.

  11. Landscaping cloth works well too instead of plastic bags.

I cover the wounds in agave nectar and a light coating of kelp powder. Then I pack it with moist soil and wrap the cloth around it.

    And ya done.

Multiple strain mothers are a must in micro growing.

  12. I heard about the same as you. I heard about problems in flower when I read about it.

But it does bring to question what if we start treating cannabis as if it were an apple plant and find the most ideal rootstock that went well with nearly any strain and could help a plant produce like one hasn't been known to (early finishing, heavy yield, pest resistance, ect). Just an idea not sure if it is possible.

  13. it's an annual.. no point in adding a root stock.... now if it was a perennial that would be a different story

the graft will cause a month of stunted growth, negating the possible benefits IMO.

  14. Cannabis plants come equipped with roots that work fine. Not worth the stunted growth. I'm also pretty sure flowering would be all off...

  15. you are my hero... my birthday is next month... just sayin...

  16. To the OP or any one with experience

Have you grafted successfully Two different strains ?

I see the main benefit in grafting to keep different strains. I see it like an innovative way to preserve different genetics. Should we be worry about the clones we take from this grafted plants ?

Currently trying it now. 100% indica and 100% sativa. Sativa for the stock.

    Ill post results.

  18. I'm have not yet I'm waiting for the 2 I picked to grow a little more.

Please post pics when your doing/done! Thank you

  19. Imagine having like 12 different strains attached to one mother... That would be amazing.

  20. I would say this is actually quite useful information. Thank you OP for posting this. I actually have a fruit tree with 5 varieties in my back yard and have often thought of grafting cannabis. The biggest benefit I see to grafting a mom is opening up space for more plants in a legal grow. Remember there are certain numbers we must stay within if we want to stay within our home. I for one like more than one strain, Id love to grow 20 if I could. But 20 mothers doesn't leave too much room for flowering plants in a legal grow. SoooHaggard....you seem to have the most hands on experience with this practice. Any way you would be willing to start a a pictorial thread documenting the failed and success of your work? At the very least, if you could PM me some more exact information on how you would go about doing this. I think it would also be pretty bad ass to have a multiple strain mom that was used for breeding. Pollinate each bud when changing out moms. Just toss her into flowering and have several crosses coming off of each plant. Would be a dream for a breeder on the smaller scale trying to get their genetics to the public.
